Guest guest
I've been away for a few days, so don't know your background, but as you re-start T3 I wanted to suggest checking your iron levels. You may already know that low iron can cause T3 intolerance. The usual recommendation is a ferritin of 70-90. However, since ferritin can be falsely elevated by inflammation or other causes, newer recommendations are to ALSO have a full iron panel done. A % saturation of 35 - 45 is best for thyroid utilization. Avoid all iron supplement for 5 days prior to iron testing. Hope this helps. (I posted this yesterday, but it didn't show up, trying again.) > > Wish me luck everyone. My temps have been stable (97.5-97.7) the past 6 days on 25 mg HC cream and am trying T3 again for my RT3. So now I think I'm ready. > > I ordered mexican cynomel but it isn't here yet. I decided to start with the generic cytomel that I already have. I'm starting with a 20 mcg dose, 5 mcg at a time, 4 times a day with my HC cream. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or a similar experience to mine and maybe took the dose raises a little slower? I was thinking about waiting 5-7 days between increases or will that be harder on my body? I just don't want to crash again. That sucks bad. Thanks! >
Guest guest
I've been away for a few days, so don't know your background, but wanted to mention iron levels as you re-start T3, and how important they are. You likely know this already, but I'll copy the usual recommendations in below just in case. Recommended iron levels for best thyroid utilization are ferritin 70-90 plus an iron panel with a % saturation of 35-45. To raise iron, many here have had good results with blue bonnet iron bisglycinate. Taken in two separate doses, and at the same time as vitamin C, helps absorption. 150-200 mg/day. Here's a link: http://www.iherb.com/Bluebonnet-Nutrition-Chelated-Iron-90-Vcaps/11571?at=0 Solgar Gentle Iron has also gotten good reports. Hope this helps. (OK, this is the THIRD time I've sent this and this time it's going THROUGH!) > > Wish me luck everyone. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your input. I had iron/ferritin levels checked and they were good. I also started at half the dose of T3 per s suggestion. So far so good. I'm going to stay at 10 mcg for a few more days and inch my way up. > > > > Wish me luck everyone. Guest guest
Yes, twice a day is better for iron, I understand the body can only absorb so much iron at one time. I did taper up on my dosing, over the course of about two weeks. I think starting a lot of iron suddenly can sometimes cause digestive upset, which is avoided by tapering up the dose. I take 1,000 Vit C each time. 2,000 would probably be even better. Hope this helps. > > > > > > Wish me luck everyone.
