You might do a search because a lot of people have commented on the hard sell on

the supplements, ie $700 worth, and the timed release compounded T3 they push

through their pharmacy, not covered by insurance. Smeone posted they'd figured

out a way around that.

I will search for that post.

I kind of expect that, however: do patients get the results they are looking

for? Is it worth the money?

Thanks.

I'm new to this group (first day today) and was not aware that there have been

other emails about this clinic. I am reading them now. Thanks.

Hi Louise,

My experience has been good so far, my doctor from the Holtorf Medical Group was who introduced me to RT3 which my previous doctor had no clue and told me to go to a psychologist! I will be happy to tell you more details is you want, but to me so far after my previous doctors experience this is worth every penny. And by the way they do not push their ST3 you are free to buy it on your on. After I joined this group I have been purchasing my own T3 and I do feel better, this is only my 6 week so I am about half way to recovery.

I do recommend them, definitely; but this group also can give you tons of insights that could add to your full recovery.

Best

Hi Flavia:

Do you mind saying which doctor you see at Holtorf and how long you've been

treating with them?

I am seeing Dr Koftan since May of this year, it is not long time but I do feel better, not 100% but better for sure especially that I am not depressed anymore, my skin has gotten better and have more energy, I am hoping to feel better when I reach my 12th week on T3. I started taking their SRT3 but I am now taking T3 I purchased myself and I do feel it is more effective; what I liked about the Dr is that he explained to me things I had no idea, and I have been Hypo for many years, so I guess I think the knowledge I gained is worth the $395 per an hour visit. I have my next visit in 2 weeks, I will be happy to let you know how it went.

Best,

Thank you Flavia!

That is exactly the kind of information I wanted to know. Yes, please post or

email us/me how the next visit goes.

What week of clearning rT3 are you on? Are you on HC? Did they put you on it?

Good luck and glad you are getting better,

Terri

I am on week 6, half way through I guess, he recommended DHEA about 5 mcg and some iodine, nothing else. I learned in this group that their T3 is SR which make sense because I noticed on week 3 I felt very hypo again, so I am purchasing T3 overseas, and it does make me feel better. I am doing new labs Friday and will see the Dr on the 19th. That will be my 3rd visit which I was told by the nurse it will be about 30 minutes and with cost now $295. My first labs in May showed everything normal except for the thyroid values and a huge RT3; so I pray next labs will bring me good news.

Flavia,

I want to make a suggestion to you in that you can drive to Tijuana and buy the

Cynomel/cytomel and it is a lot less expensive. I live in Pasadena, CA and it

is about a 2 hour drive. I parked on the California side and walked across the

border. The cost was approx $40 for 400/25mcg tablets. Anyone living in

Southern California should make the drive and just buy it. I didn't go alone,

but took my mother with me. I was in TJ for approximatly 15 minutes. They have

pharmacias everywhere. I also purchased some ceramic piggy banks, and when I

crossed the border I advised that I had bought some items from the pharmacia and

the ceramic piggy banks. They didn't have a problem with it. You do need a

passport, which is a little investment, but you can rush it if you don't already

have one.

Anyway, I have been treating myself for the last 6 months as I got tired of

spending so much for labs and advice when I could do the labs and get the advice

from this site.

Just a suggetion as I have heard the sT3 is not as effective and I'm sure more

costly. You don't need a prescription if you go to TJ.

Good luck!

Hi Beckey and thank you for the note, I have a question, did you see any of the doctors from the Holtorf Medical Group as well? if so, could you share your experience?

I joined this group right after I started taking the T3 from them; 3rd month into their SRT3 and I felt hypo again, so asked Val advise and she mentioned the fact that Cytomel/Cynomel was proven more effective so I purchased it from the Mexican drugstore online, I have definitely felt better afterwards; but I have considered going to TJ with my boyfriend. Another alternative is to ask my Mexican friends to bring me the cynomel in one of their trips home. I live in the South Bay so it is not far for me either.

I believe that after this next Dr. visit I will be in position to understand how to better treat my problem; before I learned about RT3 I had no clue about anything because I was very stable for years. I trust between my doctor and this group which has been a blessing, I shall finally recover...

Thank you again!

PS: since we are both in the LA area, next time you go to TJ let me know maybe I'll join :)

Hi Flavia,

I actually did not go to the Holtorf Clinic. I went to another Dr. in

Hollywood. I got disillusioned very quickly when I couldn't leave their office

without spending $300. I did my own labs and decided to be a guinea pig of

sorts. I am now 7 weeks in and posted my labs about a week ago. I am waiting

to retest my saliva cortisol as I have recently experienced some adrenal issues.

My temps were stable, but low, so I thought it was just my thyroid, but now it

seems my adrenals need some help. I had been taking suppplements at night to

lower cortisol, but I think I need some help during the day as I am often

dragging until the evening. It's been better the last two days, so I am keeping

my fingers crossed that it's not my adrenals.

I ordered my T3 through the internet at first and it was suppose to ship from

London. It cost me $350 for the same amount that I purchased in Mexico for less

than $40. Fortunatley, the order never arrived, so I was able to get a refund.

It's well worth the drive and I actually felt like I was on a little adventure.

I probably won't need to go again for a couple of months, but I will definitely

let you know when I do. I will send you my contact information directly to your

email if you'd like to talk sometime. I know this site has been a lifesaver for

me.

Good luck to you!
