Guest guest
low libido could other things. he could always try some thyroid meds to see if it helps. Some low level T4 wouldnt hurt i suppose. > > > > > > what would you say about these labs?? he says he feels fine and honestly he seems to have a lot of energy?? any ideas > > >  > > > tsh 4.23 (0.5-5.5) > > >  > > > FT3 3.4 (2-3.5) > > >  > > > FT4 1.0 (0.9-1.8) > > >  > > > how can he have such a high FT3 and a low FT4 > > >  > > > he is NOT on any thyroid meds at this time...thanks.. > > > > > >
Guest guest
Can't comment on the low libido other than to say that a good portion of one's libido is between the ears and not the legs. Something that tends to be overlooked in our modern fascination with blood testing and numbers. Looked at your bro in law's numbers at the bottom of this page. What I've read is that people under some sort of stress or in early stages of thyroid disease, frequently have high T3 and low T4 as the struggling thyroid wisely invests in making the active and far more potent thyroid hormone (T3) over the storage hormone (T4). Did he get tested for TPO and TgAB antibodies? Those are definitive for autoimmune thyroid disease. : ) Mzzchief > > > > > > > > what would you say about these labs?? he says he feels fine and honestly he seems to have a lot of energy?? any ideas > > > >  > > > > tsh 4.23 (0.5-5.5) > > > >  > > > > FT3 3.4 (2-3.5) > > > >  > > > > FT4 1.0 (0.9-1.8) > > > >  > > > > how can he have such a high FT3 and a low FT4 > > > >  > > > > he is NOT on any thyroid meds at this time...thanks.. > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Well, I disagree on the libido, especially if someone is over 40. Your sex hormones DO start to really decline and I think there's a reason ED pills are so hugely popular -- it's because aging men need testosterone but the labs say " you're normal. " Yeah, normal for an aging man who doesn't have the testosterone of a 30 year old, which is where it should be. I have read studies on why the body will convert like your BIL is doing. I seem to remember it was seen in iodine or selenium deficiency where there wasn't enough to make t4, so the body converts at a higher rate to make up for it. At least he CAN convert, which most of us here can't do!! I agree generally to leave someone alone if they don't feel ill, but OTOH, if I'd discovered my issues BEFORE I felt ill, I probably wouldn't be where I am right now. My husband FEELS great and doesn't have an energy problems, but a routine test showed high cortisol, and the low t3 pattern. :-( SO I started him ASAP on adaptogens, DHEA (it was low anyway along with sub optimal testosterone). I am hoping that by fixing the high cortisol (he did a saliva test) the rt3 will reverse itself as he is not sick YET. But if it doesn't correct itself in a few months, he'll be taking t3 to clear out that rt3 and make sure he doesn't wind up like me! Just my 2 cents. Guest guest
Kathleen I am in total agreement with you!! It has nothing to do with what's "between the ears". I have had low libido for years and believe me I have tried everything to get help. It is definitely a balancing of ALL hormones along with the thyroid(hormone too). I have tried all forms of testo to help my low T and have just recently primed E,P and T(tried all forms). I just recently found a Dr. that started me on injections and I truly have my life back. I'm 52 and and I feel as though I'm in my twenties again. It's great to have the energy and life back. Unless you have stuggled with this you have no right to judge. Thyroid is KEY, but the hormones are of utmost importance to the entire picture as well. Just my two cents too. Guest guest
That's great, Cindy! At first Testo raised my libido, but it went away as I got my t3 up! I have felt " off " , some fatigue, etc., no libido anymore, in spite of good t3 levels no rt3 anymore. I think it is my LOW ESTROGEN! My estrogen wasn't great to begin with and who knows how low my free estrogen is now with the t3 increasing the SHBG. I hope the estrogen gets my life back, too! Thanks for sharing your own story. :-) Kathleen > > > > > > > > > > > > what would you say about these labs?? he says he feels fine and honestly he seems to have a lot of energy?? any ideas > > > > > >  > > > > > > tsh 4.23 (0.5-5.5) > > > > > >  > > > > > > FT3 3.4 (2-3.5) > > > > > >  > > > > > > FT4 1.0 (0.9-1.8) > > > > > >  > > > > > > how can he have such a high FT3 and a low FT4 > > > > > >  > > > > > > he is NOT on any thyroid meds at this time...thanks.. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
No problem Kathleen. I've struggled with it for some time. I always had saliva testing done for my sex hormones until I finally listened to what Val was saying about testing via blood. I then found out I was still very low in everything. I have always had trouble with my Testo though and also have a very high SHBG, being that I'm on T3 only. But again as Val says you then have to raise it in order to compensate for the SHBG. I have tried creams, gels, oral capsules, troches, pellet implantation and nothing worked....so you can't say I didn't try and that is was all in my head. I dearly love my husband and was trying everything!! Anyway, I don't know if it's the fact that I finally have the other hormones in line with the T but since I started weekly injections it has made a huge difference. Not to mention it's much cheaper. I did the pellet implants for over two years....very expensive and nothing. I would have a very high Testo lab result but not feel a thing. Now it's fantastic, although I have not tested lately to know what my levels are are present. Glad I could help. Meeting Val is one of the best thing that has happend in my life. If not for her I would not have repaired my adrenals, got my thyroid in level OR understood what I needed to do for my hormones. It has to be everything in sync, at least for me. Guest guest
I don't want to get off on the wrong foot with anyone here, while I am waiting for Val's or Nick's assessment of my numbers. It sounds as if I've offended with my comment about the brain being as potent a sex organ as the testes. I'm drawing this conclusion from both the disagreement, and the the " no right to judge " comment. My comment was not a judgement, it was an observation drawn from life. I was under the impression that this was a safe place to voice opinions. Regardless of my intentions, if I've offended, apologies. Guest guest
Hi Cindy, Yes, I think I am almost THERE! But now I have such terrible anxiety, I am waiting for someone to tell me whether it is cortisol or WHAT. But the depression and fatigue in spite of good ft3 levels AND the waning libido let me know something is still off. I think the tweaking is almost harder than the getting there. And yes, Val has helped me tremendously! I have gotten so much out of my phone consults with her. Now if I only listened all the time, lol.
