I need to supplement, but I can barely tolerate the 99mg dose of most over the counter supplements. So far I have tried potassium citrate, gluconate and chloride. Guest guest
Thanks Val! What is the strength of the one you get and what type is it- citrate, gluconate, etc.? Anyone have a prescription one they can recommend? The first time I take a slow release of anything I get a little nervous wondering if I will have hours of feeling nauseaus. Some of those iron supps I tried in the beginning were pretty awful. > > Hi, > > > > Does any one here get nauseaus when they take potassium supplements? Guest guest
Yahoo won't let me post answers so I will post as a new thread for the same topic. Nina, I have stomach trouble with certain potassiums. I have found that potassium citrate works very well for me. I get the 10 MEQ pills and I take 90 MEQ a day. My doc wasn't comfortable prescribing that much until I graphed my levels out. It helped my doc for me to chart out my sodium/potassium levels in a graph so she could see what I was aiming for. It was amazing for me to see how much swinging they were doing before I started with the hc and T3. My levels were like W's, it was that bad. Guest guest
Thanks Deb! So I would ask for a prescription for 10MEQ potassium citrate. Is there a certain brand? Is that slow release? I find the citrate form gives me trouble too, but maybe if it is sustained release. Good idea on the graphing if there is resistance. My recollection is that I constantly run low in range which is not the recommended level on this board. Guest guest
, Since I was very low in range, I asked for 30 (3 x 10 meq pills) and got it. I was still low, so my doc gave me 60 meq, then, after testing again, that is how I got up to 90 MEQ. It is very inexpensive and I think I take generic. My doc could easily see where I highlighted my target range for both sodium and potassium. It seems to take a very long time, as I have been doing this for 1.5 years trying to get my levels optimal.
