Guest guest
Have iron tested before supplementing it. This appplies to both genders at any age. For best thyroid function, ferritin should be 70-90 and % saturation 35-45. Older folks can be at particular risk for iron deficiency because with age, acid production in the stomach often declines, meaning less iron is absorbed from food (This goes for B12, too, by the way). (Holly, I know this " older folks " reference doesn't apply specifically to you, if I remember correctly you are quite a " spring chicken " , but I did want to mention this iron info for other ladies who may be post-menopausal. TEST TEST TEST!) > > > >From: Carolyn Glackin > >Subject: Re: Re: How long/iron? > >To: RT3_T3 > >Date: Sunday, August 22, 2010, 8:32 AM > > > > > > > > > > > >Thank you for the reply . Just wondering though - did it cause her any > >side effects such as stomach pains, constipation or head aches? I am having > >symtoms of that nature on as little as 45 mgs of iron so don't know that I could > >do 200 three times a day. Glad it worked for her though! > > > >Carolyn > > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Grott > >To: RT3_T3 > >Sent: Sun, August 22, 2010 8:39:05 AM > >Subject: Re: How long/iron? > > > > > >HI > >Just thought I would mention - Claire saw her GP because her Ferritin was low > >at 23 (10- 322) - even though it was within the normal range managed to > >persuade him to put her on a Iron supplement for a month - he gave her a > >prescription for Ferrous Sulphate 200mg to be taken three times a day. Guest guest
Margery- Your post made me smile:) I'm 40 in few mos. - good to know "spring chicken-ness" still applies. I sure don't feel like one. But hopefully after this process I can stop feeling 90 and at least feel my age. Thanks for the info - I try to read all the posts and it's a lot to keep up with. I give you mods so much credit for doing what you do. It's a huge undertaking and is so appreciated!!! I wasn't tolerating t3, have had several consults with Val and am holding off for a while. Just taking 10mcg day. I also have a lot of anxiety about all this which isn't helping. I'm continuing on with iron, hc, b12, and magnesium. We'll see - hopefully soon I'll be on here with good news.
