Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I posted about this a while back on NTH Adrenals Group. There is only ONE study/experiment that mentions conversion & it is reproduced in this thread as well as my comments on it. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/message/7923\ 2 http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/message/7926\ 4 Note you should be careful if you have Amalgams as ALA chelates Mercury & crosses Blood-Brain barrier. However I have 9 Amalgams & have been on ALA for over a decade but still benefit. My Hubby has 2 & does well on it. Both my sons take it as well (no amalgams). I will say I think R-ALA is unnecessary & in fact is too potent. It is better to have smaller frequent doses (say 100mgx3) than 300mg once a day. Is also best to take ALA away from any Iron supps as it can be a mineral chelator as well. The studies seemed a bit nebulous. I couldn't understand if it was interfering by binding the t4 they were giving to the mice AT THE SAME EXACT TIME. The studies didn't seem to be performed on healthy mice (or humans) who weren't taking thyroid meds at all. > > Can you elaborate if you have time since you don't believe with ALA interfering with t4 to t3 conversion? > > Thank you, Kathleen
Guest guest
Hi Lethal, Thank you for the info. I can't say I ever noticed the ALA affecting me negatively even though I have amalgrams and I was taking it way because I got " sick. " However, how do you fit it in with your supplements if it chelates minerals? I split my mult-mineral, iron (when I was taking it) and magnesium into 2 doses -- with breakfast and dinner, take my calcium after dinner. Plus I have to fit the t3 in, which I take an hour before supps and food. Seems like my life will be revolving around supps if I have to try to take the ALA away from stuff, too. Unless I can take the ALA with the t3. Also, if it chelates minerals, would you not recommend that sustained release? Do you think it is able to chelated Albion minerals, as though are chemically bound to glycine and do not ionize in the gut. I know ALA is an excellent anti-oxidant, which is why I used to take it. Now I would also like to take it to help with BG. But I do take NAC to raise glutathione, too. I take Milk Thistle for my liver. Thanks!
