Guest guest
I'll let Val or Margery answer most of your questions, but the one about the cramps I can maybe help with. I was getting foot cramps too, and discovered that if I reserve 5mcg of my bettime dose and take it when I get up during the night to go to the bathroom, the cramps don't happen. I just put a bottle of water and the pill in a pill bottle on my night table and take it when I wake during the night. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! I get this dose from spiltting a 125mcg pill.My concern is that my TSH is rising, I'm tired in the afternoons. I have been unable to get to my goal weight of 138 since I started with perimenopausal symptoms (irregular cycles) over a year ago. Most importantly... sleep is punctuated by foot cramps nightly or trips to the restroom to pee. This occurs anywhere from 2 -8 times a nite. The weird thing... I'm not tired when I get up even after dancing around my bed all nite... I just pop out of bed in the morning. My most recent labs:TSH 2.89Free T4 is 1.41 ng.dl (ref range .82- 1.77)Free T3 is 2.4 pg/ml (ref range 2.0-4.4) first time in over a year its not been flagged at under the reference rangeReverse T3 is 288 pg/ml (ref range 90-350)TPO antibodies down now to 5. YAY!TgAB at 89.Weight 147So why my TSH is 2.89 when my Free T4 is at 1.41?The TSH used to be in the 1.8 range when my Free T4 was that high. is it the rT3?Why is my body is creating what I believe to be a lot of rT3 and very little freeT3? To protect my adrenals? Or because of lessened sex hormones as a result of perimenopause? Am I just not coverting well peripherally? Or all of the above?I would appreciate advice on how to proceed.thxMzz------------------------------------We are not medical professionals here, just patients sharing our experiences. Guest guest
Like Roni said, i am sure you will get a much more thorough answer from Val or Nick, however your RT3 ratio is about 8 which means you have an RT3 issue which can only be cleared by going on T3 only. Go to Nicks site and read the whole site. Calcium and magnesium can help leg cramps at night. best to you, Sharon Remember! Dolls are people, too....have you hugged your dolls today? Guest guest
Thx for the replies thus far. I take calcium, magnesium and zinc, plus I eat dairy. Watch my potassium, make sure I'm getting at least 2500 units. Most recently I've tried to get closer to 4,000. Bought a new mattress, too. hhhh. Plus I supplement with multi-b vitamins, inclusive of Benfotiamine... and a form of B6 called 5P5 with the thought that some of the cramping is the result of the peripheral neuropathy. That's the most recent thing I've tried, which at least has eliminated the pins and needles feeling and stuff like waking up in the middle of the nite with my arm(s) and/or leg(s) asleep! Its like being in a sinking boat and trying to plug the holes when the true fix really is getting into a new vessel and off HMS Synthroid, methinks. : ) Mzzchief > > > From: mzz.chief > Subject: Puzzled > To: RT3_T3 > Date: Monday, August 30, 2010, 4:59 PM > > > Hey! > I am new here and would like some input as to what to do next. > I am on 62.5 mcg of Synthroid which had been working okay until recently. > > I get this dose from spiltting a 125mcg pill. > > My concern is that my TSH is rising, I'm tired in the afternoons. Guest guest
Sharon, hey I did not get my B12 checked this last time out, last time was in December and it was 754, with a reference range of 211-911. Plus my folate was crazy high at 24.0 with the ref range on that one being >5.4. I have D issues. Got that up to 45 in December 2009 from April 2009's 22, but rechecked this August 2010 and it was down to 32 as I'd cut the loading dose of 5000 IUs to 2400 IUs from all sources. Same thing with Ferritin, that's been all over the board too. Its sounds like what you're saying is that I need to get these (b12, ferritin, vitamin D) in range before initiating T3 only therapy. Will prolly need to find a source of T3, too... ie a doc that will prescribe it and go with the plan. I live in Plano, Texas a burb of Dallas. Anyone know of a doc in this area that's open to this? thx : ) Mzzchief > > > > > > From: mzz.chief > > Subject: Puzzled > > To: RT3_T3 > > Date: Monday, August 30, 2010, 4:59 PM > > > > > > Hey! Guest guest
Val or Nick, if you would look at my numbers please and give me your opinion. My test results are at the bottom of this string. I'm not quite sure what to do, if anything. thx Mzzchief > > > > > > > > > From: mzz.chief > > > Subject: Puzzled > > > To: RT3_T3 > > > Date: Monday, August 30, 2010, 4:59 PM > > > > > > > > > Hey! Guest guest
I calculate your FT3/RT3 ratio as 8. Anything under 20 indicates an RT3 problem. I don't know why, but those labs look like your Synthroid is no longer turning into useful T3, but instead harmful RT3. Have a read of Moderator Nick's excellent website for more RT3 info. main page http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/adrenals.htm in your case, it is a puzzler why, now, RT3 worsened...here's a page listing possible causes: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/whatare1.htm Yes, you do need to get adrenals and iron in good shape prior to starting T3, here's a page covering that: adrenals http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/adrenals.htm iron http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ferritin/ In addition to a ferritin of 70-90, we also now recommend an iron panel with a % saturation of 35-45. Regarding finding a doctor who is knowledgeable about this, I wish you the best of luck, but that can be tough to do. I order my own T3, without a prescription, from outside the US. Anyone who would like to receive the " medication sources " list, just put in a post with the subject " please send sources list " . > > > > > > > > > > > > From: mzz.chief > > > > Subject: Puzzled > > > > To: RT3_T3 > > > > Date: Monday, August 30, 2010, 4:59 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > Hey!
