Re: testing for sex hormones

Testing while on TOPICAL hormones makes the saliva testign invalid,

but as you WILL be using them later on I porefer to start with serum

testing as then you have the same reference ranges to use later on.

What about sublingual meds like cytomel? Does that affect testing?

The onyl thing it would affect is T3 or FT3 testing.

One last question. The reason my doc wanted to do saliva was bc he could get a

free estradiol level that way, in order to see how the shbg is affecting me. I

can't find a blood test for that. Is there one?

HMM I htiught I had gotten one but looking though my labs it si not

there just a total Estradiol lab.

Val, I know I have seen free estadiol on some lab req slips, but maybe not all

labs can do it. I know TriCore can't even run RBC potassium.
