Looks like I'll need to test adrenals, as I do get a little lightheaded when I stand up from a squatting position. Guest guest
Hi Robin: your FT3/RT3 ratio is 11, anything under 20 indicates an RT3 problem. For info, start here at Moderator Nick's excellent website: main page: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ starting and dosing http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/dosing.htm You are right, your iron is too low. For good thyroid function, % saturation needs to be 35-45 and ferritin 70-90. People with low iron sometimes do not tolerate T3 until their iron is improved. You may have read it already, but we recommend Blue Bonnet iron, here's a link: http://www.iherb.com/Bluebonnet-Nutrition-Chelated-Iron-90-Vcaps/11571?at=0 150-200 mg/day. (Starting a lot of iron suddenly may cause some digestive upset, so tapering up to this dose can be a help.) For best absorption, take in 2 separate doses, with some vitamin C. It is often recommended to take on an empty stomach; that works for most people, but I find it easier on my stomach to take my iron with food. Many here are also low in b12, you may wish to have this checked. Healthy b12 levels are at the top of the lab range. Yes, it is recommended to check adrenals before starting on T3, here's a link to Moderator Nick's info page on this: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/adrenals.htm I'm glad you're on the adrenals group, I don't know about discontinuing salt/minerals prior to the adrenal saliva test, but they will know. Your Vitamin D is also too low, Moderator Val keeps hers at about 100, from her post: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/message/35800 This is the Vitamin D she takes: http://www.puritan.com/d-vitamins-534/vitamin-d-d-3-5000-iu-019377 from her post: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/message/15722 I don't know enough about electrolytes to comment specifically on your results, but I do know that Val supplements with enough Celtic sea salt to keep her own sodium at about 141 in a range of 135-145. Her most recent labs are in our " files " " our labs " " vals labs " . I hope this helps. > > > > Hello, I am a new member, 46 yr old female, who has suffered with hypo symptoms for years and never had proper treatment. Guest guest
PS. on iron labs: always stop taking iron at least 5 days prior to having iron tests, otherwise the results may be falsely high. > > > > Hello, I am a new member, 46 yr old female, who has suffered with hypo symptoms for years and never had proper treatment. Guest guest
Thanks for your help again. I've started taking the iron and wondered if your temperature falling is a sign of weak adrenals or something else. After I had been on about 85-100 mg of iron for a couple of days, I noticed my body temps falling-chilled feet, hands and overall body chilled. Could this be a sign that my adrenals can't handle to increase in iron?? Also, is edema a sign of faulty thyroid or adrenals? I've noticed fluid retention in my lower legs and feet over the last few months and it seems to have gotten a little worse lately. Just frustrated that as I try to correct some things other things keep popping up.
