Some people with lower iron do OK starting Cytomel. But sometimes Cytomel isn't

too well utilized/tolerated unless iron is higher.

People who do not tolerate T3 well due to low iron will sometimes (1) experience

anxiety, or (2) feel the T3 doesn't seem to be working. In either case, it's

time to lower T3 a little and wait until iron levels are up more.

Below is a link to our starting and dosing suggestions. BUT - these are for

folks with OK iron levels. With LOW iron, I would proceed much more slowly than

is listed here; starting with about half the suggested dose and increasing at

about half the suggested rate.

Moderator Nick's starting and dosing page:

http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/dosing.htm

While starting/increasing T3, it's essential to keep raising iron levels. We

recommend 150-200 mg of elemental iron daily, taken in two separate doses.

Taking iron at the same time as some Vitamin C will help iron absorption. There

are several forms of iron, we've seen best results with iron bisglycinate,

here's links to two good ones:

and

(Starting a lot of iron can sometimes cause digestive upset; I started low and

tapered up to the recommended dose over about 2 weeks.)

We also recommend an " iron panel " test, in addition to the ferritin test. This

will show % saturation, which should be 35-45 for best thyroid utilization.

Lots more RT3 info at Nick's website, this has more answers to your " what do I

need to be careful of? " question:

http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/

I read every single page and it was a HUGE help to me when I was starting

Cytomel.

Hope this helps.

doesn't seem too concerned that my Ferritin is low (23) Range: 13 - 150. What do

I need to be careful of in switching over? I am prayerful this will take care of

my high Reverse T3 (383) and stop my hair loss!
