Newer tests only had ferritin which is still low but slowly increasing. As far as I can see low ferritin is always a problem but high ferritin may still have a problem if it's caused by inflammation, the saturation will show low then with a 35% target for being OK Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com
Guest guest
Hi Nick, So do I need to worry about having low ability to absorb the iron I am taking? On the thread with and Lee, 's ferritin was lowish - 40's I think - and her other numbers were low as well indicating that even if she took iron she wouldn't be able to absorb it well? Thanks for your help, > > > > >This was the last test that had all numbers done at once. Guest guest
Hi , There is nothing in those Labs that say you can't absorb more Iron. If TIBC, UIBC,Transferrin are deficient/low in range OR if Saturation is high then you have issues. Of course for these to be accurate you MUST follow correct testing protocols as follows.... Iron Panel & Ferritin a) test early am fasting NO meds or supps until AFTER blood taken (except HC if needed) c) NO Iron supps for minimum 5 days (some sources say 7 days) d) some sources also say NO Vit C supps for minimum 5 days (some say 7 days even better) as well e) some sources also say no B12 supps for 5-7 days as well f) NO high Iron foods or drinks for at least 3 days (5 days is even better) If able is good to also test CBC with differential & ESR at same time. Of course the tests you had in April (~4 months ago) don't tell you if you are able to safely absorb Iron NOW. By SAFELY I mean you have sufficient Transferrin available to safely BIND Iron (that is what Ferritin is). It is FREE or unbound Iron that is dangerous. Causes free radicals, feeds infections, feeds Candida, fuels Cancer & can deposit into organs, glands & bones. Lethal Lee > > Hi, > > I saw your thread with and you talked about when iron numbers (tibc, transferrin saturation, etc.) are too low that someone can't absorb enough iron. > > I am on a campaign to increase ferritin numbers and taking 300mg/day of iron for this past month. My numbers in april were: > > iron: 73 (40-175) > tibc: 325 (250-450) > transferrin saturation 22 (15-50%) > ferritin 32 10-232 > > This was the last test that had all numbers done at once. Does this mean all the extra iron I am taking is floating around and not getting absorbed? > > Thanks so much, > > >
Guest guest
Hi Lee, I'm reading this and just not understanding... I'm taking 85 mg hemaplex iron right now, with 2000 mg ester c. I just started on 170 mg hemaplex last night. Does this mean with my iron labs I cannot take this? How do I deal with having low iron then??? That twitching thing I was posting with you about has gotten just awful by the way. It's now spread to my whole body It feels like mini seizures, I can't explain it. plus my arms hurt really bad and i have terrible anxiety. can this be caused by going up on t3 too much too fast? I went from taking about 20 - 25 mcg total in a day, to a few days ago up to about 45 mcg a day. (12.5 3x a day, then last dose about 8 mcg) I'm losing it over here thanks for all the help. oh ps- i'm getting that magnesium oil today thank you. > > Hi , > > There is nothing in those Labs that say you can't absorb more Iron. > If TIBC, UIBC,Transferrin are deficient/low in range OR if Saturation is high then you have issues. > > Of course for these to be accurate you MUST follow correct testing protocols as follows.... > > Iron Panel & Ferritin > a) test early am fasting > NO meds or supps until AFTER blood taken (except HC if needed) > c) NO Iron supps for minimum 5 days (some sources say 7 days) > d) some sources also say NO Vit C supps for minimum 5 days (some say 7 days even better) as well > e) some sources also say no B12 supps for 5-7 days as well > f) NO high Iron foods or drinks for at least 3 days (5 days is even better) > > If able is good to also test CBC with differential & ESR at same time. > > Of course the tests you had in April (~4 months ago) don't tell you if you are able to safely absorb Iron NOW. > > By SAFELY I mean you have sufficient Transferrin available to safely BIND Iron (that is what Ferritin is). Guest guest
Thanks Lee! I should be getting new labs in a couple of weeks and I will stay off the iron, etc. for 5 days prior. In the past i was only off for a day or two > > > > Hi, > > > > I saw your thread with and you talked about when iron numbers (tibc, transferrin saturation, etc.) are too low that someone can't absorb enough iron. > > > > I am on a campaign to increase ferritin numbers and taking 300mg/day of iron for this past month. Guest guest
This is the first i've eard that you shouldn't take B12 5-7 days before doing an iron panel. I recently did a bunch of labs, including an iron panel & posted here to make sure I did all the prep work right. I can't afford to retake the tests. How will B12 effect iron blood tests? > > > > Hi, > > > > I saw your thread with and you talked about when iron numbers (tibc, transferrin saturation, etc.) are too low that someone can't absorb enough iron. > > > > I am on a campaign to increase ferritin numbers and taking 300mg/day of iron for this past month.
