Guest guest
Hi, I'm so thankful to find this group and was wondering if ya'll could help me with a few questions. First, I've recently moved to a new state and don't love my new doc-she's a DO. I'm tired of having to figure things out myself and not finding docs who will do their job. I've been on Armour for 3 years now (on 120 mcg) but hitting a brick wall in treatment. Just had my 3rd child and her brother is 16months older and had major knee surgery in between the two babies so my body has had lots of stress. Recently learned about high Rt3 and wondering if this is part of my problem. My recent labs are as follows: Cortisol: 11.1 (6.4-21 range) I typically test out on the low side FE: 38 (28-170) %sat iron: 9.28 (18-30) C reactive protein: 7.5 (<3.0) FT3: 3.2 (2.1-3.8) FT4:.85 (.7-1.90) TSH: .03 (.38-4.0) RT3: 250 (90-350) insulin test: 11.1 So how do I do the ratio to tell if I do have high RT3? My doctor said I did have it but when I asked to go on T3 only, she downplayed it and said taking selenium, magnesium, and ferritin would get my RT3 down. Is this accurate according to the experience you guys have had? She just seemed more concerned that I am insulin resistant and from the numbers I've seen for the range, I might be a little high but not " resistant " . The practice actually sells supplements in connection to their office and it seems to me they are mostly pushing the supplements. Right now they want me taking literally 12-14 pills a day not including my Armour. And they are always wanting me to do lots of labwork costing high $$$ and I don't have insurance. I know my adrenals are probably weak due to the stress I'm under with new babies but I just can't afford to take the adrenal stress test at this time. Would ya'll recommend finding a new doc? At this point, I'm just wanting to self treat for a while especially since she doesn't want to prescribe me the T3. I am taking Ferritin supplements and Vitamin C but do you recommend waiting a little while to go on the T3 only till these improve? Is it a must to do the adrenal stress test before going on T3 meds? I also wanted to see if you guys did recommend going on T3 only meds, where can I buy it without a prescription? Just not sure where to go from here and I'm tired of paying big bucks for little to no help. Thanks so much for any help you can give
Guest guest
>Cortisol: 11.1 (6.4-21 range) I typically test out on the low side Low, a 4 times a day saliva test is needed to find out what to do >FE: 38 (28-170) >%sat iron: 9.28 (18-30) LOW and will cause problems with thyroid treatment. Ferritin needs to be at least 70 and %sat at least 35. You will need 50 to 200mg of elemental iron a day split in 2 doses taken with vitamin C for months to bring this up. You will need to build up to this dose >C reactive protein: 7.5 (<3.0) Don't know >FT3: 3.2 (2.1-3.8) >FT4:.85 (.7-1.90) >TSH: .03 (.38-4.0) >RT3: 250 (90-350) You are under medicated, the problem is with ferritin and cortisol issues you may not be able to tolerate more at the moment, Your FT3/RT3 ratio is 13 and needs to be 20 or greater so the T3 only protocol is recommended but you will need iron and cortisol in place first >insulin test: 11.1 Don't know Have a read of the RT3 site and see what questions you have left Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com For lots of good information of adrenal issues http://www.nthadrenalsweb.com/ and the adrenal group on http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
