Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm really glad to have found this group. It wasn't until I found you that I even realized there's something called " thryoid resistance " . I wonder if that's what I have. My relevant labs: Reverse T3: 352 Free T3: 2.3 Free T4: .98 About a year ago my Naturopathic doc at the time put me on both T3 and T4 meds. I was on them for 4-5 months and was disappointed that I didn't feel any better. We stopped trying. Now I'm seeing another Naturopathic doc who just put me on Cytomel (T3). This, though, is the same T3 med I tried last year. Though I've only been on it this time around for just a couple days, I'm feeling pessimistic about it...it was, afterall, the same med I tried last year. Who knows -- maybe in a month from now I will begin to feel better. But I just don't know why it would work now when it didn't work last year. I'm wondering if we just didn't increase the dose enough last year? Or if I do have thryoid resistance and my body isn't absorbing it? Any thoughts anyone would be willing to send my way will be greatly appreciated - thanks!! Jen
Guest guest
I can't be certain of your lab's ranges, but if they're the same as my lab's ranges, an RT3 of 352 is too high and indicates an RT3 problem. The best information you can get on the RT3 clearance process is at Moderator Nick's website, here's the link: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ I see you were already on T3. Since it takes 12 weeks for RT3 to completely " clear " , perhaps you were on the right medication, maybe just not for long enough? Do I understand that you have also tried a T3/T4 combo? We have not found any T3/T4 combo to work well for most folks; T3-only is what we've seen best results with. Here's a relevant quote from Nick's website: " The basic treatment is to stop all meds containing T4 and start T3 instead, The dose of this is slowly increased week by week as the T4 levels in your body diminish. After 6 weeks or so the T4 and RT3 levels in your blood will be very low. You need to keep going longer than this though as it takes around 12 weeks for the RT3 to clear the receptors as well. " from http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/howisit1.htm I don't know if you were on a correct dose of T3. Here's a link to Nick's dosing & starting page: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/dosing.htm Note on iron and starting/dosing: a ferritin of 70-90 is recommended (low iron can cause T3 intolerance). But recently we have started to recommend an iron panel as well as a ferritin test (as ferritin test results can be falsely elevated from inflammation or other causes). Target % saturation on the iron panel for best thyroid utilization is 35-45. Hope this helps. > > Hi Everyone, > > I'm really glad to have found this group. Guest guest
Thanks very much, Margery. I'll definitely read everything you listed below. I also spoke to a little bit ago and she confirmed that I'm hopefully on the right path now by only taking T3 and why last year may not have worked (because I was also taking T4 at the same time). Now I just need some patience! Can't wait to start feeling better :-) Thanks, Jen Re: New Group Member -- multiple questions :-) I can't be certain of your lab's ranges, but if they're the same as my lab's ranges, an RT3 of 352 is too high and indicates an RT3 problem. The best information you can get on the RT3 clearance process is at Moderator Nick's website, here's the link: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/I see you were already on T3. Guest guest
Val tried T4+T3 herself and it just didn't work; but T3-only did. I'm very glad you spoke to her. Yes, patience is needed!
