Guest guest
Val, most of the time on here with people who are hypo, I see they have a problem with weight gain. When I crashed in March, I immediately lost 15 lbs. Part of it probably from changing my diet to low carb, but would this be adrenal? I know I have the rt3 problem, too....but I can't figure out why I lost the weight. And it pretty much has stayed off. Not a bad thing, but getting tired of people calling me " Olive Oil. " Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Joan, what do you mean when you say "when I crashed in March" I lost a lot of the hypo symptoms but only 3 pounds of the weight I gained for the RT3, I am only on week 6 so maybe that changes in a few weeks. Guest guest
In March, I developed shortness of breath and fatigue....like my adrenals finally went out on me. Went in hospital and had 3 days of tests run, and nothing. Found a doc who did all kinds of tests and she found I had rt3. I had gained weight.....in about 5 years, put on 20 extra lbs. of mostly belly fat. (Cortisol)? Some of my symptoms are now improving, but I am just starting week 5, and on 56.25 mcg. Working to bring my ferritin levels and b12 levels up, too. I also have insomnia and did have hypoglycemia bad, but it's improved greatly. Keep me posted on your journey! Guest guest
That's what usually happens when you eliminate or severely cut down on carbs. I lost 40 lbs in 4 months on that. No exercise, no hunger, no pills. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! Guest guest
Yes I will, I can't wait for this journey to be over...or at least smoother, I have to babysit myself every day to monitor how I feel, like my world moves around my thyroid issues.... I am doing my first new labs after starting on T3 only so I can't wait to learn about my progress....I mean a lot of the symptoms are decreased, but I still have mixed good and bad days, a bit more good days fortunately. Guest guest
Does that mean if your cortisol is normal you would either gain or have trouble losing? I suppose high cortisol means gaining. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! Guest guest
Yes high cortisol causes both fluid reteniotn weight gains and fat gains. And can be hard to distinguish form low thyroi d fluid retention adn fat gains. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://artisticgrooming.net/ Does that mean if your cortisol is normal you would either gain or have trouble losing? Guest guest
Well, I am definitely retaining fluid and swelling and gaining weight. So how does one differentiate? <>Roni Immortality exists! Guest guest
It is hard to differentiate. Bt high cortils fluod retention comes on VERY fast and lwo thyroid it would be much more gradual. Your would have high BP wiht high coritsol but may also have that6 wiht lwo thyroid.Basically you need ot tell from your history and thyroid testiung http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://artisticgrooming.net/ Well, I am definitely retaining fluid and swelling and gaining weight. Guest guest
Hi Joan: Just wanted to say I have a similar history: I had trouble with putting belly fat on the last few years (which I had attributed to peri)...even though I dieted constantly for years (a huge mistake I now know). But since I crashed I have lost almost 20 pounds too. I lose at least 5 every time I even have a severe episode. I have attributed it to the diarrhea and inability to eat that I think is caused by the adrenaline coupled with lack of sleep and perhaps ironically increased metabolism (even while hypo T) due to constant muscular activity of shaking and muscle readiness caused by the increased sympathetic nervous system activity. The minute the adrenaline wears off, I am immediately ravenous, tired, sometimes constipated and rebound with at least 5 pounds almost overnight. Guest guest
Terri, Good to know I'm not the only one! The weight loss, if it will stop now, is good....I hope I get to feeling better, and I'd actually enjoy shopping for "smaller" clothes. But you hate to lose weight because you're sick. I eat more now than I did before I crashed! Feels like I'm always grazing, except it's now on stuff like almonds or celery sticks or fruit. Then I eat 3 meals a day as well! And I'm constantly drinking my seasalt water mixed with a Hanson's drink powder. (Tastes like a margarita without the alcohol). Isn't it true that the high cortisol causes the belly fat, and then when we crash, and have low cortisol, we can lose weight? I'm guessing the weight loss, as Val says, is adrenal and not thyroid, knowing my own history of high stress and adrenal fatigue.
