Venofer is prescription-only, so you need a doc to write a prescription. The

cheapest place to get a Venofer prescription filled is usually Costco. The

pharmacist will give you the little Venofer vial, which you'll then take to

wherever you're getting it administered; they will dilute the Venofer in an IV

bag (I believe this is with normal saline but I'm not positive) and administer

it.

The only caution I am aware of with Venofer is if you have low blood pressure -

the IV is run more slowly in this case. Back when I had low blood pressure the

IV took over an hour; now that my BP is normal it takes only a half hour. (Low

BP + Venofer = possible dizziness; although I've never had this at all, it is

stated as a possible side effect in the product literature.)

frequently used to counteract the low iron caused by dialysis.
