Guest guest
i am not a moderator but YES all of my family that have been treated with either naturethroid or T3 meds have seen lipid profile improve..without exception our HDL rose...our LDL went down and even triglycerides improved...and this was pretty immediate..i would say within 3 months of improving thyroid hormones...good luck! Subject: Thoughts on lipitor and statinsTo: RT3_T3 Date: Monday, August 16, 2010, 10:25 AM I'm curious about the group's thoughts on lipitor. Obviously if you don't have to take them all the better. I was born with a bad aortic valve which was replaced 2 years ago with an artificial valve at the age of 34. Because of this my cardiologist has always been cautious and prescribed the statin years ago. I'm also on Zetia as well. Now, before I started synthroid when I was 18 my cholesterol was way up there around 400, it was down to 210 or so after I was going on synthroid. I just started the T3 about 9 weeks ago. My thoughts are that I want to get the T3 going and my RT3 cleared before going into battle with my cardiologist to convince him to take me off the statin and monitor my cholesterol for a while. Does anyone have any experience with coming from synthetic T4 to T3 and seeing an improved lipid panel? Does taking a statin either one like Lipitor or Zetia interfere with taking T3? What are your general thoughts on Lipitor?Bill
Guest guest
Don't statins etc interfere with thyroid meds? I thought I read that here once.Venizia Subject: Thoughts on lipitor and statinsTo: RT3_T3 Date: Monday, August 16, 2010, 10:25 AM I'm curious about the group's thoughts on lipitor. Guest guest
Bill,I'm not a moderator and do not have high cholesterol (unfortunately mine is low). But...my mother is in the same boat as you are. And in addition to having high cholesterol she has also had a massive heart attack, so her cardiologist is really insistent that she gets her cholesterol down. Because of my mother's situation I have done some research on cholesterol and I believe that most doctors are out of control with prescribing statins and their recommendations for good cholesterol levels are way off. I would be ecstatic if my cholesterol was 210. Your body needs cholesterol for all the hormones it produces including cortisol, which is a big problem for me. Anyway...yes T3 will definitely help lower your cholesterol. Val is a prime example. You can also eat more saturated fats, eat less sugar, and add CoQ10 and grape seed extract to your regime to help improve triglyceride and cholesterol levels. The book " Fat and Cholesterol are Good for You " by Uffe Ravnskov is a good book on the topic of cholesterol. -- I'm curious about the group's thoughts on lipitor. Guest guest
My lipid profile altered greatly after taking T3. Before my cholesterol was high, my HDL was low and my LDL was high. Now all my numbers are in good ranges. I also take Krill Oil as added insurance. I've read a lot about statins, and I think it's a very scary thing to disrupt a hormone pathway for life. I would do anything and everything else before taking a statin. Fortunately I just had to get my thyroid right. Ann > > I'm curious about the group's thoughts on lipitor. Guest guest
I think Lipitor is a dangerous drug. My cholesterol used to be 640 and tri's at 430 and now BOTH are beautiful with jst T3. When mine were so high I was on Syncrap. http://www.nthadrenalsweb.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://artisticgrooming.net/ > My lipid profile altered greatly after taking T3. Guest guest
You really should see a cardiologist's blog http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/ For those who are hypothyroid, T3 is known as the most powerful cholesterol lowing drug available anywhere. The same processes that convert T4 to T3 and RT3 also create cholesterol. There is substantive correlation of high RT3 with high cholesterol. The vast majority of cholesterol in your blood is created by your liver, which is also responsible for producing thyroid hormone conversion enzymes. You might also check out Taubes' book " Good Calories, Bad Calories " where he discusses many of the studies that have lead your doctor to prescribe Lipitor. And while I'm at it, I'll also plug fish oil, niacin, and being wheat free. Alan > > I'm curious about the group's thoughts on lipitor. Obviously if you don't have to take them all the better. Guest guest
Thanks for the thoughts on this. Alan, fish oil is a tricky thing for me because I have the artificial heart valve and have to be on blood thinning medication. I am looking into the low-carb diet. Val, the doctor I'm seeing for my thyroid thinks the same thing about lipitor, that is part of my problem. He just wants me to stop taking it without even consulting my cardiologist, which I don't agree with. I've never really bought into the whole cholesterol thing. Everyone's thoughts on T3 and it's affects confirm what I thought. My plan is to go to my cardiologist and talk to him about dropping the lipitor and monitor the lipid panel over a few months and see what happens after my thyroid is dealt with. > > > > I'm curious about the group's thoughts on lipitor.
