Hi

Have not been around much lately. But everything is going well. Anyway my sister Kara is 18 weeks pregnant with her third child. The email below is from her. She didn't tell me that is was pregnant until week 12. Which was not good. because i wasn't able to advise on her thyroid. I should of got the hint when she rang me and her ferritin was only 52. She told me she has not been taking tabs. The real truth it that she was pregnant and didn't tell me. Anyway her ferritin is now 33. So I told her to double her dose of iron to 200mg of elemental iron. Her temp at 4.00pm was on 36.3 celcius. When pregnant are you still wanting your temps to be 37 at 3.00 pm? I have told her not to touch thyroxine. Also this is the first pregnancy she has used thyroid medication.

Val I need to know is it safe to take more than 200mg of elemental iron if her levels stay below 70? She is a vegetarian so she is not getting any iron in her diet.

Also in oct last year her reverse t3 was 13. i told her we would wait until she got her ferritin up before we did the t3 only. I told her not to get pregnant again until we had her results stable obviously she did not listen. Her doc is worried about her low t4 thats why he wants her to take thyroxine alongside naturethroid. He does not believe in the ferritin affecting thyroid. I am not worried about the t4 level. I am more worried about the t3. Should I just tell her to add 12mcg of t3 and she how she goes?

Well we jst had a baby born to a T3 only member that went perfectly

with a healthy baby so the fears of lwo T4 are just that, fears and nto

realistic. Temps durong pregnancy shoudl be HIGHER than normla so she

is hypo. She can certainyl try some T3 as some is much better than

none. And whether she can wabsorb more iron from a higher dose will

depend onher digestion and her Binding capacity which I wouls need ot

see a full iron panel to begin to guess at.
