Guest guest
So if I am hypo what do I do? Keep taking the compound thyroid med? Keep taking the Cortef? Keep taking the supplements? Doctor was adament that I need BOTH T4 and T3. He also will not put me above 1 grain and have been on that dose for the last year, he just wants to compound it now to add a little more T3 but still with both. I just saw a recent family photo of myself and I look HORRIBLE. Bloated, huge, my eyes look droopy. I do feel like since taking the Cortef (5 mg.) 2 in a.m., 1 late morning, 1 in the afternoon, that the water weight and bloating started although my energy level went up the sleep issues got worse. My Doctor now wants me to start dosing off Cortef slowly in the next few weeks, so has told me to take less and less to get off. Ferratin level was at 7, range should be 50 -70. Started taking the Chelated Iron, 27 mg. now up to 3-4 doses a day and getting the upper stomach cramps, taking it with Vitamin C like suggested here. I know people said that things can get worse before better but my husband is now really questioning what the heck I am doing?? I think even I am questioning what the heck I am doing?? So do I keep taking everything until hopefully finding a doctor to help? This is madness and very costly to keep doing if I look and feel even worse? You need the starve the reverse out by going T3 only. T4 has no direct biological activity, it's a pre-hormone for the active constituent which is T3. The body functions fine on T3 only. If he does not understand this then he may not be the right Dr for you. >I do feel like since taking the Cortef (5 mg.) 2 in a.m., 1 late morning, 1 in the afternoon, that the water weight and bloating started although my energy level went up the sleep issues got worse. You seem to know what you are doing better than your Dr. Get the Ferritin up Graph temperatures and take as little HC as you can and keep a stable temperature. Once Ferritin is up to at least 50 go onto T3 only and ramp the dose up. If you need to sack your Dr do so! Nick

Guest guest
I felt the same way you did a few months ago. I didn't realize most people on these groups dump their doctors and order their own labs and order their own meds from the source list. That is what I am doing now and it is costing less than paying co-pays for doctors and meds that are too low in dosages. The mods here are great and if you feel like you need more hand holding Val will do phone consults for a small fee. Good luck. > > > > >Still bloating, water retention now big time, upper digestive cramping after eating or late day....I almost feel like just stopping it all as I feel I am getting worse and not better. Guest guest
Your labs look exactly like mine did when I was on more Levoxyl back in March. I finally chose to lower the T4 and up the T3 on my own so the doctor finally relented. No matter what, the more I pushed the Levoxyl the worse I got. The same on Armour for me. I'm taking 25 mcg/Levoxyl (with T3) now just to maintain consistency but I think I'm going to have to get rid of it and see another doctor about taking Cortef. I've never had good direction on taking Cortef. Everyone is too darn scared to script it and then they want me to take a tiny amount and not dose it throughout the day. I have low iron too. It finally bumped up to 58 after a few months on iron. Good luck to you. I know you question what you're doing but I know I feel better doing things myself than with the doctors, as scary at that sounds sometimes. We know our bodies better than they do. I hope you can find a good one you feel comfortable with. Sherry > > Just had my latest app't. I am on Naturethroid 1 grain. Labs are as follows: > > TSH 1.24 range .40-4.50 > T4 free 1.1 range .8 - 1.8 > T3 free 260 range 230-420 > T3 rever 28 range 11-32 > > This doctor is one of the first I have had who will at least LISTEN, I sent him the article about a possible reverse T3 issue before appointment. Once in appointment I asked him if he agreed with it and he said that he WAS dealing with the adrenal issues and that he does not want to give me T3 only, like Cytomel. I mentioned that the thyroid med, the cortef, the other things just do not seem to be working, he now wants to compound the thyroid med and still give me the combo of T4 to T3. Says I still need both. Otherwise my labs look fine to him. Wants to up my progesterone cream and also my testosterone to help with libido. > > Still bloating, water retention now big time, upper digestive cramping after eating or late day....I almost feel like just stopping it all as I feel I am getting worse and not better. Guest guest
So continue with supplements, keep trying to up the iron which will take a few months from what I hear, taper off the HC and just keep taking the compound thyroid that the Doc is doing until I get my iron up? No taking T3 only if I can get a Doctor to do it until Ferratin level up? > > >So if I am hypo what do I do? Keep taking the compound thyroid med? Keep taking the Cortef? Keep taking the supplements?
