Guest guest
I've been on T3 only since Oct 2009. I feel alot better & some of my longtime symptoms have gone away. This is my first labwork since clearance. I'm currently on 150 mcg, dosed 4x/day. I understand, from other posts, that I have to get feed back about aldosterone & some of the other labs from the adrenal group, so I'll post this there. But I'm hoping to get some feedback about my thyroid labs here. The Doc's office omitted some of the tests I requested, so I know that I'm missing Renin & Potassium RBC.Thanks!C. Guest guest
Actos is a HORRIBLE drug with many probelms and side effect where as Metformin has been used for years with NO problems. I would NOT take Actos! With vitamin D this low you ned ot check kidney labs and calcium levels and maybe parathyroid hormoen levels to find ouyt why you have intolerance to more han 2000IU as oyu wil nto likely be able to raise it with that low a dose. http://www.nthadrenalsweb.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://artisticgrooming.net/ > I can't tolerate more than 2,000 IU of vitamin D3. Guest guest
Metformin certainly has its place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metformin The most common adverse effect of metformin is gastrointestinal upset, including diarrhea, cramps, nausea, vomiting and increased flatulence; metformin is more commonly associated with gastrointestinal side effects than most other anti-diabetic drugs.[25] Metformin has also been reported to decrease the blood levels of TSH in patients with hypothyroidism,[70] and, in men, LH and testosterone.[71][72] [edit]Gastrointestinal In a clinical trial of 286 subjects, 53.2% of the 141 who were given immediate-release metformin (as opposed to placebo) reported diarrhea, versus 11.7% for placebo, and 25.5% reported nausea/vomiting, versus 8.3% for those on placebo.[73] Gastrointestinal upset can cause severe discomfort for patients; it is most common when metformin is first administered, or when the dose is increased. The discomfort can often be avoided by beginning at a low dose (1 to 1.7 grams per day) and increasing the dose gradually. Gastrointestinal upset after prolonged, steady use is less common. Long-term use of metformin has been associated with increased HOMOCYSTEINE levels[74] and malabsorption of VITAMIN B12.[75][76] Higher doses and prolonged use are associated with increased incidence of B12 deficiency,[77] and some researchers recommend screening or prevention strategies.[78] -------------------------------------------------------- So if you go on it you must be very careful to take B12 & other B Vits & keep them at optimal levels. Your B12 & Folate levels are currently both too low. ------------------------------------------------------- Actos is a brand name of Pioglitazone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioglitazone Pioglitazone can cause fluid retention and peripheral edema. As a result, it may precipitate congestive heart failure (which worsens with fluid overload in those at risk). It may cause anemia. Mild weight gain is common due to increase in subcutaneous adipose tissue. In studies, patients on pioglitazone had an increased proportion of upper respiratory tract infection, sinusitis, headache, myalgia and tooth problems. ------------------------------------------------------- Of course once taking B12 then Serum B12 is useless. However CBC, Homocysteine & urinary MMA can be used. Regarding Vit D intolerance is usually realted to low/suboptimal magnesium levels. RBC Magnesium should be at least top of range & yours is only 50%. Best thing to bring up Mag is transdermal Mag Oil (I use & strongly recommend Ancient Minerals). You should also be taking some Vit A, E & K all fat soluble vits work together. Supplementing one can cause deficiency in the others. See Vit D - Must also take Vit A, E, K2 as well!! http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=15100 If you don't supplement Iron then you look as if you have Iron loading going on. Hence the deficient TIBC & UIBC, and elevated Ferritin. However saturation % looks fine. What was your Serum Iron like? Was the test done early am fasting? Do you eat high Iron foods, did you have any in the 2-3 days before the test? If you take high dose Vit C that increases Iron absorption. Possibly once B12 & Folate is optimised your Iron/Ferritin may fall some. Increased Metabolism will also increase Iron demands & you look as if still a bit Hypo. Your Estradiol & Free Testosterone are far from optimal as well. Are you doing anything about that? Low Sex Hormones affect Insulin & blood regulation too. The fact your FT3 is so low despite 150mcg T3 is surprising. Unless it is one of the very weak ones, or perhaps slow release compounded? How long before test was last dose of T3 & how much was it? Guest guest
Hi Lee, The columnsof my lab results didn't translate very well. I included my last 3 labs taken 8/2010, 12/2009 & 8/2009. The B12 & sex hormones were taken in 8/2009 - so they're a year old. I wasn't supplementing with B12 when I tested. Likewise, the only D3 test they did was the total. (I'm having a hard time getting these doctors to do the right tests). Lee spoke: > What was your Serum Iron like? Was the test done early am fasting? Do you eat high Iron foods, did you have any in the 2-3 days before the test? If you take high dose Vit C that increases Iron absorption. > Possibly once B12 & Folate is optimised your Iron/Ferritin may fall some. > I asked for an iron panel, but I guess they didn't do a serum Iron test. I did the test fasting before 9am. I eat primarily chicken & pork, occassionally eating pork. I also eat pecans, almonds & some cashews. And eggs. I don't know if they are considered high iron foods. I'm not taking vitamin C. I'm not doing anything for sex hormones. When I asked my gyn/endo for something for my low testosterone, she said that testosterone typically turns into estrogen & I'm estorgen dominate. please note: my sex hormones were tested in 8/2009. Also, I'm not currently taking A, E, nor K, but I guess I will order some. Any recommendations on brands or what to look for? Re: my FT3, I'm taking Grossman's from mexico. I'm dosing 50 @ 8am, 50 @1pm, 25 @6:30pm & 25 @bedtime. My last dose, before testing, was the 1pm, so I had 100 mcg. I did this because my doc keeps mentioning my low TSH & wants to address that. I don't. Either you or Val mentioned that I'm still hypo. But I'm not feeling that. My temps have risen from an average in the low 96s to the low 98s (Faren.) The white cracks on my legs, from dry skin, have disappeared & my memory has greatly improved. Should I increase my T3 dose? Thanks for your help! c. > > >>> > > >>> I've been on T3 only since Oct 2009. > > >>> I feel a lot better & some of my longtime symptoms have gone away. > > >>> This is my first labwork since clearance. > > >>> I'm currently on 150 mcg, dosed 4x/day. > > >>> I understand, from other posts, that I have to get feed back about aldosterone & some of the other labs from the adrenal group, so I'll post this there. Guest guest
I just thought of something re: my iron test results. I cook my primarily with cast iron pans. I can't remember what I ate in the days prior to the testing, but I fry eggs pretty much everyday in cast iron. Guest guest
Hi " C " , They MUST have done a Serum Iron, can't calculate a Saturation % without one!!!! Cooking in an Iron pan in days prior to test would have increased Serum Iron some & hence Saturation some, how much, no way to tell. I wouldn't be too concerned. The Saturation is not really very high & the Ferritin only slightly elevated. I would strongly recommend that you retest a full iron panel & Ferritin within the next 3 months, make sure all the correct protocols are followed & see what it shows. If Ferritin is still elevated inflammation should be tested for CRP, Homocysteine, BCB & ESR, Fibrinogen. Possible it may be Iron Overload but if so appears to be very early stages. I would strongly recommend that Sex Hormones be retested as it has been a year now. If you are Estrogen dominant are you taking Progesterone? HOW do you know you are dominant if you haven't tested for a year? I recommend testing in blood early am fasting, Day 21 (ovulation +7days) if still cycling. •Hormonal Panel (early 8am fasting overnight) includes… If cycling usually LH,FSH tested day 3 & remainder tested ovulation+ 7days (~day 21) FSH LH Estradiol (E2) *Free Estradiol if available Estrone *available USA Estriol *available USA Progesterone LH/FSH Ratio •Androgens Panel (early 8am fasting overnight) includes…… Testosterone Free Testosterone Bioavailable Testosterone (BAT) *if available SHGB FAI DHEA-S Androstenedione Dehydrotestosterone (DHT) *must have for males/optional for females " I'm not currently taking A, E, nor K, but I guess I will order some. Any recommendations on brands or what to look for? " These are all fat soluble vits so Ooil gelcaps are best. I also try to source Soy Free. Vit A want actual Retinyl Palmitate NOT Retinyl Acetate & definitely no Betacarotene, For most 10000IU is good dose, try to find oil gelcaps & Soy Free. Solgar has one but will have to source from somewhere other than iHerb Solgar Vit A 10,000IU http://www.iherb.com/Solgar-Vitamin-A-10-000-IU-250-Softgels/15720?at=0 Vit K I use this one, has some K1, & both types of K2, I take 1 a day LEF Super K http://www.iherb.com/Life-Extension-Super-K-with-Advanced-K2-Complex-90-Softgels\ /14619?at=0 Vit E need one with all the natural forms not just Alphatocopherol, also Soy Free, I take 1x400IU daily I take this one http://www.iherb.com/A-C-Grace-Company-Unique-E-120-Softgels/8294?at=0 " Re: my FT3, I'm taking Grossman's from mexico. I'm dosing 50 @ 8am, 50 @1pm, 25 @6:30pm & 25 @bedtime. My last dose, before testing, was the 1pm, so I had 100 mcg. I did this because my doc keeps mentioning my low TSH & wants to address that. I don't. " Do you mean you took last dose of 50mcg T3 at 1pm & then tested before ~9am the next day? So that's ~19 hours later? I always test about 12 hours later myself. So if you tested ~12 hours later likely would have tested higher too. In any case your TSH, Ft4 & Rt3 are all below test limits so looks like you are on enough as long as you FEEL WELL (which you say you do). If you feel well & temps are good then I would stay on dose you are on & just try to work on other things you know aren't optimal. Like Sex Hormones. As I say getting Testosterone & other hormones optimised will help Blood Sugar regulation. Getting B Vits, Vit D optimal will also help. Are you on all the supps that help with that? Like ALA, Biotin, Chromium Picolinate, etc? Guest guest
Oops - found the serum iron result: 75 (35 - 155) RE: estrogen dominence - my gyn told me that when I had my sex hormones tested last year. I will get your recommended blood work done when I can. I'm currently unemployed without benefits. My temps only get upto 98.4, but I'm a little uncomfortable with the temp. I feel very warm most of the time & can't tolerate hot weather anymore. I don't know if that's because I'm so used to being in the 95.4 - 96.4 temp range or if there's something else going on. I'm assuming that I eventually need to add more T3 to get my temps to top out at 98.6. The only supps I'm taking are B12 methyl 5,000mcg Jarrow folic acid 800mcg (which you've said in another post should be something similar to Thorne's folical). I was taking blue bonnet vit D3 1,000iu, but am trying Now Vit D-3 5,000 iu (hopefull I can tolerate it). Trader Joe's molecularly distilled omega-3 fatty acids. 1200mg fish oil 600mg total epa & dha. If you tell me what else I should be taking & what to look for in each supplement, I'll put a web page together for either the RT3 or Adrenal group. I see frequent requests for this info on these lists. Thanks - I really appreciate all the help I've received on this list. I'm assuming that I eventually need to add more T3 to get my temps to top out at 98.6. > > The only supps I'm taking are B12 methyl 5,000mcg > Jarrow folic acid 800mcg (which you've said in another post should be something similar to Thorne's folical). > > I was taking blue bonnet vit D3 1,000iu, but am trying Now Vit D-3 > 5,000 iu (hopefull I can tolerate it). > > Trader Joe's molecularly distilled omega-3 fatty acids. 1200mg fish oil 600mg total epa& dha. > > If you tell me what else I should be taking& what to look for in each supplement, I'll put a web page together for either the RT3 or Adrenal group.
