Guest guest
Kat, I'm not Val, but I dod a lot of research on carnitine because my old doc always wanted me to take it. It's supposed to help with energy, but the thing is, it blocks t3 from getting into the cells! There are tons of papers on this at www.pubmed.com and the amounts used were often the same as those recommended on the bottles. It's even used to treat hyperT! So I am just too scared to take the stuff. You can get carnitine checked at a lab and maybe if you are below range, you might need some and then it wouldn't afect anything, but if you're in range, I would personally steer clear. Sometimes vegetarians get too low b/c it's found mostly in meat. Hope this helps, Kathleen > > I was just checking through some old posts and it looks like some people use carnitine. Guest guest
Hi Yes I had seen a lot of that same i nformation but I was wondering if anyone had tried it and what effect it had on them - positive or negative? Thanks Kat > > > > I was just checking through some old posts and it looks like some people use carnitine. Guest guest
Actually, I was taking 1500 mg a day based on that doc telling me to take it. This was before I knew anything about it. I can't say if it affected me negatively or not because he never really had me on a good protocol. I have a rt3 problem and he made me take Armour AND cytomel, so I have no idea if it was rt3 or the carnitine that prevented me from feeling well (as he actually got my ft4 and ft3 into good ranges.) Now I'm just too scared to try the carnitine! For what it's worth, the studies I read said it's normal for hypos to have low carnitine, so maybe it's self correcting. The studies also used 1500 to 2000, so maybe taking something like 500 mg would be okay. I mean, meat eaters probably get that much every day anyway. My husband is a vegetarian and his carnitine is low-normal but I'm not going to give him any b/c I am just too concerned how it will affect the t3 getting into his cells. (He has to go onto t3 only therapy soon.) Kathleen > > > > > > I was just checking through some old posts and it looks like some people use carnitine.
