Guest guest
Yes, cytomel is synthetic, as is Levoxyl. I don't think it's the synthetic aspect that is the issue here; it's the many hypo people put on levoxyl-only, which makes their labs look fine but leaves so many of them very sick and hypo. If I was adding T4 back into my regimen, I would keep a sharp eye on RT3 levels, to monitor them and make sure RT3 was not building up again. > > > Sorry to interrupt this thread, but why is levoxyl considered to be toxic? Because it is synthetic? Isn't cytomel synthetic also? I always get confused about this, and I am trying to add T4 back in to my regimen, also, so I want to get the facts > Thanks > Liz >
Guest guest
Not that I know of. Moderator Val has said that although T3 is synthetic, but is also bio-identical - it is indistinguishable from the T3 we (are supposed to) make ourselves. Here's a link to a post that discusses this subject: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/message/25186 > > > > > > Sorry to interrupt this thread, but why is levoxyl considered to be toxic? > >Because it is synthetic? Guest guest
Not to get off track here, but do you Margery (or anyone else out there) have any idea of what would be considered rt3 building up again? What I mean is that everyone who take t4 or makes their own t4 has SOME rt3. It's normal. I know that a ratio of 20 is desireable. So if someone went onto NTH + Cytomel and they of course made SOME rt3, but their ratio was still over 20, would it be okay? Or do you think it depends on the person? If the ratio is over 20, does that generally mean the receptors are open enough to receive the ft3 and are not all clogged up? When I tried Armour + Cytomel, I still had a ratio of only 14 or 15, so no wonder it didn't work for me. :-( Thanks, Kathleen > > > > > > Sorry to interrupt this thread, but why is levoxyl considered to be toxic? Guest guest
I would go primarily by the ratio. I have also read that some more enlightened doctors consider an RT3 over 100 to be unhealthy (I unfortunately do not have a reference to cite for this). My current RT3 is 35; if I were to add in T4 at any point, I'd keep a close watch on it creeping higher (it was 316 when I first measured it). I think some people can go, to some extent, by symptoms. When Moderator Nick tried going back to NT he felt worse than when on T3-only (I wish it was that simple for us, Kathleen!) Temps gradually going lower and a gradual return of hypo symptoms would be other things to watch out for. > > > > > > > > > Sorry to interrupt this thread, but why is levoxyl considered to be toxic? Guest guest
Thanks, margery. I know my labs appeared great when I was on Armour + Cytomsel, BUT my ratio was only 15 so no wonder I didn't feel as great as my labs looked, lol. Doc didn't get the ratio thing however and just told me my rt3 was " high normal. " so i left him. However, perhaps if I'd simply increased the Cytomel but then it's a matter of " what's the point? " I was taking 100 cytomel with the Armour as it was. Although I have to admit that I didn't feel the roller coaster I've felt on the t3 only journey I've been on the past few years. So if this doesn't work (and I'm giving it a full year) I may very well try Armour plus a high dose of Cytomel and see if THAT works. Of course, the year is not over yet!!! And yes, I wish it were as easy as for Moderator Nick who doesn't even have to take HC! Lucky dog. ;-) Kathleen > > > > > > > > > > > > Sorry to interrupt this thread, but why is levoxyl considered to be toxic? Because it is synthetic? Isn't cytomel synthetic also?
