Guest guest
If SR stands for slow release then I would hazard a guess that the reason this would be problematic is that methylcellulose is what is used to make time release or slow release. Cellulose of any kind makes absorbtion of any of the thyroid meds difficult and methylcellulose in particular hinders absorbtion. increased cellulose in the new armour formula is supected to be the main reason why so many people had a return of symptoms when armour changed their formula, and why so many went to other forms of NDT when armour was changed. Guest guest
Hi Sharon: Yes, that is my understanding too about most of the SR T3 that you can get out there at compounding pharmacies. But supposedly Dr. Holtorf figured out the issue with the binders in the SR formulas used by compounders and made a new compounding formula that he sells to his patients through his office's compounder. The interview and reference I saw said he had released that formula to another compounding pharmacy where others can have their prescriptions filled, making it available to anyone, not just patients of Holtorf's clinics. I was curious if Val had any experience with it because the idea of SR T3 is appealing but both Nick and Val's websites say they've heard that the SR that is available out there so far has felt " weaker " than multi-dosing T3. Have you tried it? Never tried any SR personally but had lots of reports of if being less strong. I have no problem with multi-dosing standard T3, I count out the day's worth into an empty bottle and take that round with me so I can see if I have missed a dose. Timing is not critical, plus or minus an hour or so is fine. Standard T3 is CHEAP, the Grossman Cynomel that many of us import from Mexico is $49 for 300 tablets of 25mcg each plus postage. Many people find this cheaper than their insurance co-pay even if they have a prescription. Guest guest
Hi Nick: Thank you for your reply and your experience. I am new here and currently not on any thyroid med at all. I appreciate the information you've taken the time to complile here and on the other reverse T3 site. Do you happen to remember or know if any of those that specifically said they tried SR T3 were taking that compounded formuation designed by Holtorf that supposedly fixed the binders issue? Or was it just regular SR T3 compounded by any compounding pharmacy? I've read conflicting reviews...some were upset they were advised to buy a proprietary formula and others praised the effectiveness and efficiency of a SR formula that they said worked and really made a difference. In the Holtorf interview I listened to, he certainly sounded confident that solving the binder issue made the SR aspect of the med. work. Guest guest
In addition to the expense (that is mostly NOT reimburseable by insurnace due to the cost being so far above reasonable and customary), here's a comment from someone who has taken it... It's as weak as other SRT3's out there that Val and Nick warn against. It's appealing to think that you only have to take a pill once or twice per day but it doesn't work. I was up to 62.5mcg SRT3 compounded at the Holtorf pharmacy and was still having wretched hypo symptoms. When I switched over to regular T3 from Mexico, I dropped down to 25mcg and felt considerably LESS hypo than on the higher Holtorf dose. I am now working my way back up with straight T3 and am finally making some progress. I would definitely NOT recommend the Holtorf SRT3. in LA > > > > >Do you happen to remember or know if any of those that specifically said they tried SR T3 were taking that compounded formuation designed by Holtorf that supposedly fixed the binders issue?
