Guest guest
I have no muscle either, found recently this is due at least partly to ZERO testosterone. My testo used to be nice and high for a woman, and I had naturally good muscle tone. Now testo (and my muscles, boo hoo!) are gone. There may be several reasons for this; I take HC and I understand that HC can lower testo. I am on testo replacement now, too soon to see if it will help, but thought I'd mention the testo/muscle connection. > > > From: ladyhawkblue2 > Subject: Gaining weight on T3 only > To: RT3_T3 (AT) yahoogroups (DOT) com > Date: Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 10:18 AM > > >  > > I have never in my life had a weight problem, even after my > kids were born,I was back in my jeans within 2 weeks. > Even in 30 some years of being hypothyroid, I've never had a weight issue. > However I have gained about 25lbs since being on T3 only.this is a lot for me since I am only 5'1 " > This makes no sense to me but I found the info below online yesterday > and wonder if it may be my problem. > Has anyone else gained more weight while being on T3 only? > Chantal > > What About T2 and T1 †" What Do They Do? > > Both of these hormones are supplied as part of natural thyroid hormone therapy (taken from animal glands), but do not form part of standardised medical treatment, because many doctors feel they play no role in the metabolic processes. > > Until recently T1 and T2 were thought to play a role only as part of the conversion process, with no actual effect of their own. Guest guest
It is tough. So many here have adrenal issues and need to limit exercise. Also many here are on HC which lowers testo. So we lose muscle, and gain weight. I believe this is a temporary phase for many. As RT3 clears adrenals often improve. Less HC may be needed, and exercise may become better tolerated. For longstanding and/or more complex problems, like mine, there is the option of testo supplements. I wish I had tested my testosterone a long time ago and started supplements then, maybe I wouldn't have gotten so bad. Moderator Val was also on testo supplements, the topical cream, and, if I remember correctly, had good results with getting back some muscle tone. Guest guest
hey, i just found some testosterone labs that are from 4/09 but just wondering what they look like. 23.6 range (14.0-76.0) this was before supping with HC which I have been doing for a year. Guest guest
In my opinion this does look low. Moderator Val likes to keep her testo " high within the normal range " from post: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/message/38745 If you've been on HC for a year I'd bet money testo is even lower now. I wonder how much of weight gain that is sometimes blamed on T3 isn't T3 at all...so many folks on T3 are ALSO on HC. HC may = lower testo, which = muscle loss, which = weight gain. Some doctors don't think low testo is a problem in women, or if you're " in range " all is well. I feel they are wrong on both counts. If testosterone supplements are used, regular testing is a MUST. I am trying for " high normal " , but, particularly as a woman, want to make very sure I don't go OVER normal. Guest guest
I think that's why Val said it's the " free testosterone " test result that's the important one. The bound stuff may be just floating around uselessly. The testo cream did not work for me at all. I am now using sublingual troches from my compounding pharmacy, 10 mg twice a day. I only started it recently - it's too soon to see exactly how well it will work in the long term - but my free testo HAS gone up a little so far. Thanks to Val for her suggestion to try the troches. Hope this helps. > > > > > > > > > > > > From: ladyhawkblue2 > > > > Subject: Gaining weight on T3 only > > > > To: RT3_T3 (AT) yahoogroups (DOT) com > > > > Date: Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 10:18 AM > > > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > I have never in my life had a weight problem, even after my > > > > kids were born,I was back in my jeans within 2 weeks. > > > > Even in 30 some years of being hypothyroid, I've never had a weight issue. > > > > However I have gained about 25lbs since being on T3 only.this is a lot for me since I am only 5'1 " > > > > This makes no sense to me but I found the info below online yesterday > > > > and wonder if it may be my problem. > > > > Has anyone else gained more weight while being on T3 only? > > > > Chantal > > > > > > > > What About T2 and T1 †" What Do They Do? > > > > > > > > Both of these hormones are supplied as part of natural thyroid hormone therapy (taken from animal glands), but do not form part of standardised medical treatment, because many doctors feel they play no role in the metabolic processes. > > > > > > > > Until recently T1 and T2 were thought to play a role only as part of the conversion process, with no actual effect of their own. Guest guest
If my aldosterone comes back low after being on HC for a year does that mean I should try Cortef & Florinef. My blood pressure is remaining low. Also, is there a source list for testosterone cream? Guest guest
You shoudl get aldosterone tested. Florinef si not somehting to just take unless oyu are sure you need it. It can have some really serious side effects oif you do not need it. There are no sources for testosterone as it is a controlled substance. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://artisticgrooming.net/ > If my aldosterone comes back low after being on HC for a year does that mean I should try Cortef& Florinef. Guest guest
Thyroid estrogen adn testosteroine ALL can raise SHBG. Many people with low cortisol have high estrogen. So the estrogen must be balanced as well for the Testosterone to be freed up and for T3 as well . IN this last year my Free T3 went down on th4 same dose i have been on, BUT I have raised BOTH testosterone and estrogen, so I assume my SHBG went u pas well. I am now raising T3 too and that SHOULD create a balance. It is normal for these three hormones ot interact this way and that is w3hy it is important to have them all correct for your age. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://artisticgrooming.net/ if a person has a tendency to not get a rise in free testosterone with the creams will that improve with troches?? or if your testosterone gets bound up will that happen with anything...would it be better to try to lower my shbg...i have not had it tested but what else would be responsible for me having such a good response to testosterone cream for a month then all of a sudden that going away?? i know with low thryoid you have low shbg...so i am confused since i also have low thyroid?? Guest guest
It makes sense that a high SHBG would be binding the testosterone, but I don't know if that can be overcome by switching from cream to troches.
