For raising iron , I'll quote Val:

" for Iron Blue Bonnet Bisglycinate seems to be the best tolerated with 150-200mg

a day needed to raise ferritin levels. "

From her post

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/message/33134

We have also had good reports on Solgar Gentle Iron.

Here's a link to the bluebonnet iron:

http://www.iherb.com/Bluebonnet-Nutrition-Chelated-Iron-90-Vcaps/11571?at=0

Taken in two separate doses, and at the same time as vitamin C, helps

absorption.

ferritin levels. I tend to have a lot of digestive issues so one that's easy on

my tummy would be appreciated. :)

Has anyone had success using Floravital to raise iron? 10ml contains 10mg of iron, taken twice a day. I'm wondering how it compares to the Blue Bonnet. Currently I'm taking this and should I switch to Bonnet? "for Iron Blue Bonnet Bisglycinate seems to be the best tolerated with 150-200mg a day needed to raise ferritin levels."

The recommendation is 150 to 200mg of iron a day spread in 2 doses.

Don't start on this level, build up to it.

The Bluebonnet contain 27mg of iron so you would need 3 times as many

Floravital to get the same amount of iron

You need to either take thyroid sublingually if it's at the same time

as iron or take iron an hour after thyroid and thyroid 4 hours after

iron

Start with one at a time twice a day

Every 3 or 4 days add another so it becomes 2 twice 1 day, then 3 a

few days later etc.

The 150 is a total daily dose.

8 pills a day total is what people tend to find works.

Lots of vitamin C with the iron tends to help absorption and tolerance

No problem with the iron then

I could do an ad for Bluebonnet. I'd tried for 6 months to raise mine from 19,

unsuccessfully. Then I found out about BB. In three months I got it up into the

low 70's. So did my daughter, and her's was 13. You take 150-200 mg/day with C

for absorption of the 27 mg.

Should I be taking the iron with food? I have a hard time swallowing pills.

Can I open them up and take them that way? Any extra vitamin C wreaks havoc on

my stomach so will I have a harder time getting the befits of iron?

What are some of the symptoms of low ferritin?

I have seen it recommended to take iron on an empty stomach, but that makes my

stomach hurt, so I take mine with food. I think this has to be better than not

taking iron at all.

There is no reason I know of that you can't open them up to take them.

Don't know how they'll taste, though.

Yes, vitamin C helps maximize absorption, but if you can't tolerate any vitamin

C at all, you'll still get some of the benefits of iron. Again, I think taking

iron without vitamin C is still better than not taking iron at all.

Here's a link to a good ferritin page, with symptom info, etc. Although the

info is all good, I've found the iron(s) they recommend (ferrous sulfate, etc.)

too tough on my tender stomach; I stick with the blue bonnet bisglycinate:

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ferritin/

Hope this helps.
