My own humble opinion is that one should not take estrogen without progesterone. However I also don't like the idea of a combination cream. They are absorbed differently so in one cream the absorbtion is going to be compromised. I do a rhytmic dosing that is different every day during a 28 day cycle. Some people do a static dosing that is the same for 3 weeks on and take 1 week off. So even though I take estrogen only for the first half of the cycle I then take both for the 2nd half. There are 2 main theorists on BHRT...Dr Lee (who goes by the least amount necessary to relieve symptoms -usually .5mg of biest- and follows the 3 weeks of doing both the biest and the progesterone in 2 separate transdermal creams and then the 1 week off) and TS Wiley who advocates following a rhythmic dosing that mimics a woman's natural cycle

in her reproductive years. Dr lee thinks a period is unnecessary and undesirable. Wiley insists it is absolutely essential to avoid disease and ill health.

I have tried both. The Wiley recommended dosing was too much for me. the static dosing left me feeling weird. I have found what works for me is a modified version of the wiley or rythmic dosing using less and adapting that to what my saliva tests and symptoms indicated. Bottom line is that you are going to have to do some research and make your own determination based on your saliva tests and how you feel. It is a very individualized thing and it is not going to always stay the same. I don't take testosterone but I do take DHEA 50 mg per day and more of 7-keto DHEA (which doesn't convert to testosterone like the regular DHEA does).

The Progesterone is better absorbed through thin skin areas like the wrists , inner elbows and backs of knees or collarbone area. The biest or estradiol is better absorbed either vaginally or through fatty areas of the body. So it is hard to fathom a transdermal cream that combines both.

hang in there, you will find the right answers,

Sharon

So it doesn't matter to take bhrt when I'm still having regular menstrual periods? I guess I thought it was only for those in menopause. Would you suggest a vaginal ultrasound before taking them? I'll have to talk to the doctor about taking separate creams. She also gave me 25mg DHEA. I'm taking any of them yet.

It's not so much about whether you have a period or not as to whether your hormones are in balance. You can be having a period and still have low estrogen or progesterone.

Estrogen dominance also doesn't necessarily mean you have enough estrogen. You can have the environmental estrogens that come from plastics and pesticides and soy (which slows the thyroid) and not have enough of the right kind of estrogen or not have enough progesterone to balance it out. It is about getting things in balance and right for you.

Saliva testing is the best way to get a good picture of what's going on with your hormones.

Another reason why i am not happy about the idea of that 3-in-one cream is that it is a one size fits all proportion and everyone's needs are different.

Thank you. I have a lot to learn.

If our levels are constantly changing, how would we know how much to take on a daily basis? Would we be just trying to approximate the perfect balanced cycle of a younger person? For me, I decided I felt better on a rythmic dosing but at lower amounts than the standard wiley regimen. It took awhile to get it so I had a 28 day cycle and no negative effects like pms symtpoms. Some people like the static dosing that is the same each day of the 3 weeks on...and some people are happier not having a period. I was getting hot flashes with less estrogen and pms with more progesterone so it has been tricky to get it just right. On top of that the thyroid meds affect the whole thing also. It is a matter of getting everything in balance for yourself. Then stress or a depletion of critical nutrients can thow you out of balance as well. Too much testosterone (or DHEA) and your hair can fall out or grow more on your face. I have not been able to find a doctor who told me how much of everything....but i do

have a doctor who listens and allows me to adjust things as needed. I have had to do my own research and ask questions of people in informative groups such as this. This is a good place to learn and get feedback.

Thank you. I have a lot to learn.

If our levels are constantly changing, how would we know how much to take on a daily basis? Would we be just trying to approximate the perfect balanced cycle of a younger person? Sharon I sdisagree strongly that saliva is the best way of testing sex

hormones oince on the creams. My OWN labs prove hat to be incorrect. I

wasted my money testing wiht saliva through ZRT for sex hormones last

year while on Testosterone cream and progesterone and it showed my

levels through the roof higu , thne wihtin a month retest by serum and

progesterone was just right and testosterone was still LOW.  Increasing

Testosterone has helped me wiht NO excess symtpoms and my doctor then

explained whythe saliva testing is skewed when on TOPICAL hormmones it

has to do wiht distribution and he was right on the money.

It's not so much about

whether you have a period or not as to whether your hormones are in

balance. You can be having a period and still have low estrogen or

progesterone.

Estrogen dominance also

doesn't necessarily mean you have enough estrogen. You can have the

environmental estrogens that come from plastics and pesticides and soy

(which slows the thyroid) and not have enough of the right kind of

estrogen or not have enough progesterone to balance it out. It is about

getting things in balance and right for you.

Saliva testing is the best

way to get a good picture of what's going on with your hormones.

Another reason why i am not

happy about the idea of that 3-in-one cream is that it is a one size

fits all proportion and everyone's needs are different.

Just MHO

Sharon

The Wiley Protocol has made so many women sick I really woudl not

pursue it. It is EXTREME adn nothign with hormoes should EVER be

extreme! We need NORMAL physiological levels of hormoens. Thsi includes

sex hormoens. They DO need ot be adjusted for OUR systems and needs but

Wiley p[rotocol is NOT this.
