Guest guest
Judy, I sooooo wish I could help you. I live in the area too as do a few others on this forum. So far I have not had any luck finding a good doctor who is in-network. I actually haven't been able to find a good doctor who is out-of-network either :-( I am seeing a doctor in polis right now, but other than the fact that he can write me prescriptions and lab slips I don't really care for him. I'm going to try a new doc in McLean, but she is not in-network either. My sister-in-law is seeing an Endo who prescribes Armour, so he may be worth a try if you just need a thyroid doctor. I'm not sure if he is familiar with T3 only meds, but I guess the fact that he prescribes Armour is a good sign. Let me know and I'll send you his info. --Steph > > I'm currently going to my internist but he admits he know little or nothing about hypothyroid issues, and while he has been very accommodating about working with me on what I read and find on support boards, he's too slow. A visit can take over 2 hrs. just to get in to see him. The final straw his office " re-scheduled " my morning appointment that I made over 2 months ago to an afternoon, which is useless for me since I can't take meds before blood work and I'm not going with out my thyroid meds until after 3 pm or later in the day. I would be truly sick by then not to mention what waiting that long would do the actual lab results. > > I've called several of the dr.s listed on Shomon's good dr.s list for the VA/MD/DC area and they're mostly (a)out of network benefits that means I have to pay upfront all charges each visit then try to get the money back from my health insurance by filing the correct forms? ( I have to get my own lab work done and pay extra for a copy of the result © one dr. charged by time for seeing the dr. ie. $$100 for 15 minutes, $150 for 30 minutes, $300 for an hour!©aren't taking new patients. > > I'm feeling pretty frustrated and defeated right now. > > Judy >
Guest guest
, if it's who I think, the women drs. in Mclean, are both out of network, one's not taking any new patient.... Before an appointment can be made I would have to email a request for a " new patient packet, " fill it out, fax or mail it back then if they " deem " me worthy I have to 1st do a $350 consultation, which doesn't include ANY lab work or supplements, AND there's a $30-100 lab interpetation fee when you do have any labs done there!! WTF??? Unbelievable. Guest guest
Yes...you are right about the doctors in McLean. But my current doctor in polis is actually more expensive and is also out-of-network. polis is also over an hour away and McLean is 20 minutes, so for me it will be worth it. I know it is ridiculous...definitely makes you wonder if it isn't just better to go it alone. :-( Did you want me to send you the info for the Endo in Bethesda that my sister-in-law goes to. Might at least be worth a phone call to his office to see if he uses T3 meds. Do you have adrenal issues also or just thyroid? I'm sure an endo will not be able to help with the adrenals unless you have 's or Cushing's. Let me know and I'll send you his info. --Steph , if it's who I think, the women drs. in Mclean, are both out of network, one's not taking any new patient.... Guest guest
Yeah, I hear ya on the distance my internist is in Chevy Chase plus if they only have week day, 10a-4p hrs. you've gotten take off lots of time from work....Thanks but I'm going to pass on the endo. I've just hear too many horror stories about hypo patients and endos, who just don't get it. No adrenals problems here,so far, thank goodness. I've gotten a couple leads (thanks rt3 folks, you know who you are;) ) on some gyns so I'm going to try that route. Thanks again, and good luck with your McLean drs. Shomon speaks very highly of them tho, so should work out. Guest guest
The list of good doctors are in files or is it link on this board or the NT. I'm reserving judgement on the one recommended to me.
