>My temp at 9:15 am today was 98.9. I do get some palpitations, especially when

lying in bed. I am at week 8 on T3 only, and I want to know:

>1) at what point should I get labs to see how I am doing?

At the point where you can't judge where you are by symptoms. This

transitional period is taking snapshots of a moving target, of limited

value

>2) do I stay at this dosage, lower it, or continue to raise? I am finally

starting to slowly lose weight again, first time in months.

Sounds like you may be on a little too much, you can either hold there

for longer or drop a little and raise again in a week or so, by that

time your remaining T4 levels will be lower

>3) after 12 weeks, do I slowly try to wean down?

Depends how you feel, you might need to drop suddenly, if you take

enough T3 to clear hypo now then you may jump hyper for a few hours

and need to skip a couple of doses and start lower again. we are all

different

>4) what does low BASAL temp signify? is it possible to be naturally lower than

98.6? I started out at 96.6-96.9.

Basal will be lower than 98.6, the body lowers it's metabolism at

night (driven largely by the drop in cortisol). a healthy basal range

(on days 2 and 3 of period for a menstruating woman) is 97.8-98.1.

Nick, thanks for your reply. A couple of questions:

1) Not to sound too dense, but how will I know if I go hyper and need to skip

doses—palps, high temps, shakes? what else?

2) I am post-menopausal, so the basal temp shouldn't vary during the month;

could I just normally have a low basal temp, or should it rise close to

98.something when I am on correct thyroid dose?

Basal for you should be 97.8-98.1 then, below that indicates a

problem, generally thyroid and/or adrenal
