More power to you doctor for examining your values and refusing to

compromise them. Everytime courageous chiros like yourself do this,

the stronger your practice and the profession gets and the better we

will be able to serve and actually make a major positive difference on

our society's health and wellness.

Cheers.

Does anybody have UnitedHealthcare. I was trying to figure out whether

the DOC Band is covered, before we go for our appointment at CT, but I

could not find information. I am planning on calling them on Monday,

but wanted to check if anybody has had experience with them. Thank you

in advance.

I have just spoken to them and our plan does not cover orthotics. that is what the band is considered. you will need to specifically ask for that if it is in your plan. your plan is a contract between the employer and the insurance company and they are telling me even an appeal would not go through.

I have empire united healthcare NY and was covered about 80 percent. Good Luck, a few others have not had so much luck the first time out, they have had to appeal. I was glad to get around 2600 and the band cost 3000. But, go for the free cranial consult anyway. They can do measurements and help get you pre approved. Tammy

I do not believe it was considered an orthotic for me with united healthcare. Call back and get codes from Cranial. I believe it was a considered a medical equiptment. Not sure though but it was covered 80%. Keep trying and band anyway even if not covered it is important to start young and get the correction. Fight later, band now. Tammy

You can pay on a credit card and space out payments on a payment plan.

We have UnitedHealthcare too. They are a hit or miss in coverage.

You will definetly want to contact them. We decided to pay upfront

and try to get reimburssed after. We did that because it would take

a month or longer just for the approval process. We wanted to get

the band on asap before our son got older. Good luck. I hope they

cover some or all of your band.

I have United Health Care and I was denied as they

called the helmet an orthotic device used specifically

to change the shape of a body part, which was an

exclusion to my policy. In addition to a letter of

medical necessity written by a pediatric plastic

surgeon, I wrote a 12 page appeal letter citing my

son's history with severe brachy, including

repositioning attempts, definitions by the American

Medical Association, studies about the effects of

untreated plagio (all info found in the insurance

file-very good stuff), but unfortunately was denied

again. I felt totally hopeless. I thought for sure

they would aprove it after the appeal letter. Anyway,

now 2 months have gone down the drain and my son is 9

months old (instead of a more desirable 7 months) and

is getting his helmet on April 7. We were are paying

out of pocket since I just know in my gut that it is

the right thing to do. Take it from a mom with

feelings of guilt for wasting the past 2 months

waiting on the appeal to go through, if it is at all

financially feasible, get the helmet now and worry

about coverage later.
