Sherry -- you didn't mention if you have autoimmune thyroiditis or not?

I had sinus infections for years... I prevent them by taking Mucinex (OTC)

daily, and using Simply Saline (or a Neti Pot). As a result of all the

antibiotics, I got systemmic candida so I stay on top of preventative measures.

Peri-menopause and now full menopause has definitely made regulating my thyroid

more challenging (I'm quite severely hypothyroid, taking 75 Cytomel and 200

Synthroid per day). I take mine sublingually, with the Cytomel 50 in am, 25 pm.

I've recently discovered I'm quite deficient in B-12 and Viramin D, and I'm

hoping supplementing those will help turn things around. I've just recently

switched to a more holistic practitioner that had suggested switching to Armour,

and also is looking at everything,

I also have have the air-hunger/allergy issues... Especially since I live in a

verg hot climate. I take Benadryl at night with the progesterone, but the

Cortef helps me (strong anti-inflammatory). Estrogen also is essential for me

at this point (53), and helps with the breathing issues & hot flashes. I'm also

considering Estring or DHEA suppositories for urinary/vaginal issues of

menopause. Do you still menstruate/had your FSH levels checked? It could be

estrogen deficiency...

It's a time consuming & frustrating battle that I'm still struggling with!

Sent from my iPhone

I've been a thyroid patient for 9 years. I have been miserable on T4 meds for

years. I've tried various combos and nothing seemed to work. I'm now

trying/retrying more SRT3 and less Levoxyl. I know I can't tolerate the Levoxyl

but it seems to give my adrenals some level of consistency. My last labs were

in June. My T meds are far different now than they were then. I thought I'd

share them just for some background info.

FT3 2.5 range 2.5-3.9

RT3 217 range 90-350 my level used to be 280 so it's improved

FT4 0.70 range 0.46 to 1.31

TSH 4.54 range 0.34-5.60

I believe I was taking 25 mcg Levoxyl (which is what I'm still on) and I'm

thinking I was at 10 mcg SRT3 then. I can look if it's necessary. Right now

I'm at 25 mcg/T4 and as of last night 13 mcg/SRT3.

I go up and down all of the time with symptoms. One minute I feel normal and

the next I plummet. I can't pay attention to drive, my vision is blurry or I

act like I'm having some sort of asthma attack or allergic reaction when I walk

into building due to the air quality or have terrible heart palpitations. The

air/breathing is by far my worst symptom next to constant sinus infections.

I go from feeling hyper on an increase of T3 to plummeting the next, like I did

this week, and needing an increase asap. Right now I'm pretty much inching my

way up at 1/2 to 1 mcg doses, anywhere from every 4 to 9 days. I kept the

Levoxyl to help things keep steady in me. I've tried to do just T3 alone before

and I just plummeted and had heart problems that would shoot me out of bed.

This is the very first time I've tried taking SRT3 more than twice a day. I take

it 3xs/day. I am taking 6 mcg in the am/pm at 8 hours apart. And I take T3 at

about 8 or 9 p.m. Right now I take 1 mcg at night. I figured it's best to try

to keep the dose about as even as possible. I'm now adding more in the nighttime

and keeping the daytime doses the same until I'm more evened out. I find that

if I don't have enough in me at nighttime the next day it takes me 1/2 the day

to come out of my funk. It's like I'm catching up.

I had cortisol saliva labs done back in Feb. My cortisol then was high in the

morning, low by noon and ok the rest of the day. Their overall assessment of my

coritsol was of a person who was 70 yrs. old. I'm 45 years old.

I'm severely sensitive to medications. I'm finding I'm doing better on

medications now that I've gotten rid of most of my Levoxyl. I've had a hard time

taking Cortef. It seemed to worsen my 'allergic' reactions to air qualities

andI'd feel like I was going to pass out due to lack of air. I've tried some

licorice tincture in water before but I just crash with fatigue so badly. Are

there others out there like me?

I can't work, I can't drive because I can't depend on if I'm going to be ok from

one minute to the next. I'm basically housebound and that's not easy when you

have children.

I'm sure I need to dump my Levoxyl. I tried to do that and by the third day I

was miserable. I don't know if I should've just taken more T3 to replace it or

not. I'm not used to going downhill that fast after dumping T4. I always do

great dumping it until my FT4 level lowers. I feel very 'raw' so to speak on the

T3. The slightest change and I'm miserable. I can't even explain the sick

feeling in the body. I also combat constant swelling only on my left side,

which is why I get all of the sinus infections. I'm on antibiotic after

antibiotic and that has to stop. It's now causing other infections because of

it. So I guess I'm here to see if anyone else is like me. I'm so incredibly

sensitive to meds and I would love to take Cortef but I keep having troubles

with it. It's hard to have a doctor script it and know what they are doing too.

I'm basically doing this on my own, as long as my current doctor doesn't think

my TSH is going into hyper

range.

I'm taking progesterone as well. I don't have current labs on that. Though I

take a minor dose 1/4 gram, it causes huge changes in my blood and saliva

levels. I've been on it for 2 months now.

Sorry for the long synopsis of my health story. Thanks for listening.

Amazing you did this from an iphone! I can't hardly operate my daughter's Itouch

without getting annoyed at hitting every other key I don't want! lol

About the autoimmune. You brought up a very good question I have yet to have any

commit to. The last time I had that checked out of two levels, one was high. I

can't remember just yet what it was but it's the one we all get checked for

autoimmune. I can't get one doctor to say you know Sherry, you have Hashis. I

had a doctor at the U of I just blindly say I had hashis because anyone with

thyroid problems has it. So there ya go. You know as much as I do. I'll try to

look for that lab and tell you specifically but right now I have to get dinner

going.

I'm low in estrogen but am estrogen dominant. I don't know the labs but I'll

look those up. They are old for that one.

I do irrigate my sinuses but not like I used to. I used to do it twice a day.

Anymore I hardly do it, like today. I need to. My sinuses are so dry from this

thyroid problem. That adds to the infections as well.

I know I have a systemic yeast problem. I need to be more regular about the

probiotics. I just can't think some days and then I forget. Speaking of, I just

got out of the car and my BP dropped so severely I thought I was going to pass

out. I realized I hadn't had a snack since lunch. That's another issue, weight

gain. I eat high carbs because of all of this. Anyway, I need to get going.

I'll try to remember to put other labs on here, but they will be about a year

old. That's all I have.

I appreciate you sharing with me. It helps to know it's not just me. I feel

like a mess and it's so frustrating. I want to get out of the house and go back

to work and just be normal again.

Sherry

I just wanted to add in my saliva labs from 9/2008. That's all I have to work

from. My DHEA was 3 range 3-10, estradiol 10 range 7-10, progesterone (on less

than 1/4 gm) 459 range 65-500 (I read labs usually show high so we have to go by

symptoms) and

free testosterone 18 (normal) range 8-20. My Vit. D was 31 and I have a hard

time taking that. My ferritin was 58 (I'm taking 75 mg day) and my last TIBC 402

range (220-400) low, Percent Sats 12 range (13-45)low, Transferrin 287 range

192-382...I have no idea what this means. I was just told to up my iron.

was miserable.

Thanks Nick. Finally! Someone told me. I always said that's what it meant but

no one would confirm it for me. That explains a lot. What's strange is that it

took 8 years to show up. Yet I had signs of it witht he repeated on and off

problems. I find that my symptoms go from hyper/hypo. I feel like an oddball

because I rarely find someone who experiences both symptoms. The doctors sure

as heck don't have a clue.

Hi Sherry: I'm writing to make sure you've seen Moderator Nick's excellent

website; especially as you mentioned trying to take T3-only before and not had

satsifactory results...he has a terrific " how to start " page, here's the link:

Here's the main page:

I hope the information there will smooth out your journey, it sure helped me a

lot!

I thought I'd

share them just for some background info.

did this week, and needing an increase asap. Right now I'm pretty much inching

my way up at 1/2 to 1 mcg doses, anywhere from every 4 to 9 days.

Thanks Margery. I did happen to see it on another post so I took advantage of

looking at it. It brought up a lot of questions I have and it made total sense

on things I've seen with my dosing. My biggest issue will be my adrenals. Like

Nick's webpage said I will crash hard if things aren't in order and today I

crashed hard. Thanks for the support. I've really felt alone through a lot of

this. I also caught Cat's medical research info and it was like something just

clicked! For a long time a doctor I've seen and I have said there is a glitch

between my hypothalamus and pituitary but it's not showing up on labs except for

the RT3 which was the missing lab no one paid attention to. So I appreciate

everyone's contribution with information on here. Things are starting to make

sense with me.

on things I've seen with my dosing.

Things are starting to make

sense with me.

for years.

I thought I'd

share them just for some background info.

thinking I was at 10 mcg SRT3 then. I can look if it's necessary. Right now

I'm at 25 mcg/T4 and as of last night 13 mcg/SRT3.

and the next I plummet. I can't pay attention to drive, my vision is blurry or

I act like I'm having some sort of asthma attack or allergic reaction when I

walk into building due to the air quality or have terrible heart palpitations.

The air/breathing is by far my worst symptom next to constant sinus infections.

did this week, and needing an increase asap. Right now I'm pretty much inching

my way up at 1/2 to 1 mcg doses, anywhere from every 4 to 9 days.

It's like I'm catching up.

the morning, low by noon and ok the rest of the day. Their overall assessment of

my coritsol was of a person who was 70 yrs. old. I'm 45 years old.

medications now that I've gotten rid of most of my Levoxyl. I've had a hard time

taking Cortef. It seemed to worsen my 'allergic' reactions to air qualities

andI'd feel like I was going to pass out due to lack of air. I've tried some

licorice tincture in water before but I just crash with fatigue so badly. Are

there others out there like me?

from one minute to the next. I'm basically housebound and that's not easy when

you have children.

> >

> > I'm sure I need to dump my Levoxyl. I tried to do that and by the third day

I was miserable. I don't know if I should've just taken more T3 to replace it

or not.

I'm basically doing this on my own, as long as my current doctor doesn't think

my TSH is going into hyper range.

I take a minor dose 1/4 gram, it causes huge changes in my blood and saliva

levels. I've been on it for 2 months now.
