I am insulin resistant........In the past, I have been put on

Glucophage for it.

However, the Glucophage never really helped me. I always felt

terrible. I would try all these different ideas...take at

6:00pm...take with dinner.....take the 'XR' slow release formula. I

began taking it on 5+ different occasions, and I would always end up

stopping.....I couldn't function feeling so crappy all the time.

I don't want to scare you.....I understand that some people tolorate

it quite

well. However I was not one of them. I would be tested while on the

Glucophage and my insulin would still be high???? Right now, I am

not taking anything for the insulin resistance.

I question why your Dr says you are insulin resistant, and then in

the

next breath says " if you are not already diabetic " . They are two

opposite things.....one is the absence (and or lack of enough

insulin (diabetic), while the other is too much insulin (insulin

resistant).

I have had Doctors tell me to stay on the Glucophage (metformin) b/c

it will prevent Type II Diabetes in the future, and I have had other

Doctors tell me that there is no proof in it's prevention of the

Type II.

I have given up....I can't seem to get an agreement on whether or

not

the Glucophage actually does anything. I DO KNOW that it made me

feel

yucky all the time. It was suppose to lower the insulin by

contolling

my sugars........However, it just lowered my sugars and

didn't do a thing for the insulin.

I feel completely fine not taking it.

BTW, I had a Doctor that thought I should remain on the Glucophage

once pregnant. However,

when I went to Mayo Clinic, they flipped to think a Dr would tell me

that. Talk to your doc about being pregnant and taking something

especially if you are TTC. Gluphage is not approved to be taken

when PG. I have had 3 miscarriages, and I wonder

what roll it may have played in it.

BTW, it has been one month since I had a severe uterine septum

resected. I am desparately waiting to hear what's next from my RE.

Good Luck!!!!!

Rhonda & Kate --

I was on Glucophage for about a year and it was a miracle drug for me. I

have PCOS and I didn't get pregnant on Clomid alone, but when my doctors

added Glucophage, I got pregnant on my second cycle (and then on my first

cycle of Clomid with each of my subsequent pregnancies). I also had more

energy, lost between 5-15 pounds (I kept getting pregnant; it's hard to

tell) and felt great. I had some of the gastrointestinal side effects for

the first week or so and then felt just fine (but I have a relatively strong

gastrointestinal system -- even huge iron supplements don't cause problems

for me).

I'm interested that Kate's doctors flipped when she mentioned taking it

while pregnant. All of my OBs and my RE have recommended keeping me on it

until week 12 of a pregnancy; they all cited research showing that insulin

resistance can contribute to first trimester miscarriages (which was

supported by the reading and research that I did). I took it until week 12,

then tapered off and was completely off by week 13. I would have tapered

off of it a week earlier, but I was also tapering off progesterone shots and

we didn't want to shock my system too much.

Good luck!

Yes thats more of what My RE was saying--about it can HELP you loose

weight and get preg. and if it didnt get me preg then they would do

clomid----but that if I did get preg probly at least keep taking it

the first 10-12 weeks or long depending on Obst dr...cause it can help

to prevent miscarriage which IR are at high risk for....so yeah sounds

like our Drs think alike when it comes to this drug. I get my Glucose

test in the morning...so I will see--I still dont understand how he

would know i am insulin rest. other then just my symptoms(he thinks i

am PCOS possibly) but yeah....ovary disfunction anyways.....we will

see I am scared to take it.
