Guest guest
Hi Heidi and everyone. I know i'm more about questions than answers but i promise once i get started on the journey i'll try to help others! I have my surgery this Thursday to get me ready for IVF (with annonymous egg donor). I'm 40 and have never given birth though I had a mc this past summer at 12 weeks either due to the septum (which everyone thought was BU for a long while) or poor egg quality (but I digress, will save the egg chat for another day). My question is two-fold! First, how long after the surgery have others TTC via IVF and what are the hormones like for IVF? Because I'm totally side-effect woman. You name it if there's a side effect I have it but would love to know what they are and if there are any ways to lessen the effects! and second, ok this is a big one and far more philosophical: I know it's early to be worrying about this but i feel like what if i do the surgery with the general anesthesia, the missed work, the discomfort which is obviously totally worth it if it results in a child....but what if i do it, then spend our life savings on IVF and it doesnt' work?????? I would do anything for a child. But my DH doesnt' want to adopt (I knew this when we got married) and on top of everything I have to use an egg donor (which I'm now at total peace with though it too is an added complication and expense). I'm sure i want this but I'm wondering how I will handle it if we end up with nothing? I'm trying to be optimistic as we are at a great university hospital in NY, under the best care but i'm losing faith in my body, my age, the egg thing which is a whole other thing. Am I pushing too hard for this?????? I have three days to back out. I GUESS I WANT A GUARANTEE. Does anyone have any thoughts that might make me feel more at peace about all this? During my last pregnancy I was literally ecstatic every second for the 12 weeks....and it taught us how much we really WANT a child!!!!!!!!!!! so even though it resulted in a mc and i had a VERY hard time of course healing from that...it made me powerfully sure in my belief this is what i want but that was before I needed surgery AND a donor egg! Also we will be great parents. Should i just convince myself not to think about failure? I wish i was more spiritual at times like this. THanks ladies, you are all inspirations to me!!!!! Guest guest
Hi Heidi, just got home from my surgery it was nothing unless the worst is yet to come! it was quick, they didn't use general and didnt' have to go through my bellybutton. in fact I feel just fine. The doc said i had quite a long septum (2 MRI's later after being diagnosed BU) and most of it was fibrous but some at the top was muscular and might grow back but still we would be creating much more room for the baby. But since nothing is this perfect, I had the news from my doctor that while the right side of my uterus looks fine, the left has quite a bit of scar tissue (probably from a previous D&C) which might require more surgery! ugh!!!! So now the Septum is behind me but i'll have to check out the scar tissue in the HSG before they will let me get started.... it's neverending!!!!!!!! Thanks for the info. Would love to know if you or anyone else has any info on scar tissue. i'm so relieved at least the septum issue is behind me and i am one of the lucky ones in that i am in zero pain! Thanks and love Gwenn > > > > > > > Hey ladies > > > > I am UD confirmed with u/s, MRI & HSG. We have > > tried > > > > 3 rounds of clomid > > > > with IUI unsuccessfully. Guest guest
Heidi by the way, i'm not clear you had IVF with a septum, have you had a child yet? i might be a little doped up to read the post correctly! sorry... > > > > > > > Hey ladies > > > > I am UD confirmed with u/s, MRI & HSG. Guest guest
Gwen, I'm sure Heidi will chime in quickly, but since I'm here. . . She DID have IVF with an intact septum, but her septum is atypical, and she is bicollis. Her docs thought that resecting her particular set up was too risky. She's full term with her very first (yay, Heidi!) Guest guest
gwen, congrats on getting thru the surgery! glad youre feeling ok. that completely sucks about the left-sided scar tissue, but im glad the docs are aware of it and can watch you. it may not be a problem, you just need embryo and placenta to invade on right side. will look into the scar tissue thing when i have time- do you have a history of keloid scarring? xo heidi > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hey ladies > > > > > I am UD confirmed with u/s, MRI & HSG. Guest guest
Thanks for responding Heidi....i'm so bummed. I'm having IVF can't they just stick the embryo over to the right???? Also how does it work when he says i'll need surgery. Do they scrape the scarring off? Doesnt' that just create more scarring? IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING. Last night i dreamed i adopted....LOL > > > > > > > > > > > Hey ladies > > > > > > I am UD confirmed with u/s, MRI & HSG.
