Hi Holly: I was somewhat hypo most of my life, and fell down the RT3 rat hole

when I was about 44. Getting everything into place for optimizing thyroid is a

dauntingly complex task (you name the complication, I've had it! Ugh!).

One thing that gave me resolve to continue was Janie from STTM, (while I do not

think she had an RT3 problem, she DID have a thyroid problem). Once she was

optimized on thyroid, she said " I regained the energy and stamina of a

teenager. " Words to live by!

I will be delighted to read good progress reports from you.

Margery-

Spring chickens in the title of the post is cracking me up:)

Yes- I have read Janie's book. Took me 2 days and I've been a mess ever since. I was a mess before, obviously, or I wouldn't have read the book but it's just messier. It was shocking to read- so true about my own life that I was disturbed. I feel frustrated to have this info- finally and not have any a doctor who understands it. The medical world should be ashamed. I've lost 14 years of my life to this. I do believe fixing my thyroid is the answer but getting there is a battle. I have two young kids and a husband that deserve to see/meet the old me again.

How long did it take you to clear your rt3? Is is under control or do you have recurrent issues? You mentioned you hit all the potholes along the way. Did you ever have chest pain - shallow breath? It makes me nervous and I am only on 10 mcg cytomel.

I hope you feel like a teenager! I was thinking 40 would feel good - 18 would be beyond words:)

Hi Holly: Getting there can indeed be a battle. I have continuous blood loss

from GI issues so I am always running into the LOW IRON problem. When my iron

drops I have to reduce to a sub-optimal T3 dose, ARRRRRRGH!!! I'm now on a more

frequent iron IV schedule, hoping I will stabilize in this regard.

I believe I cleared my RT3 in about 12 weeks, but I was recovering from viral

meningitis at the time, so temps and symptoms were all over the place, kind of

hard to tell what was going on.

I didn't exactly have chest pain, but I felt like I could not take a deep

breath, like somehow my lungs were already full of air, hard to explain. This

turned out to be, in me, high cortisol plus not enough T3. (Val had a post that

said something like " when it feels like someone is standing on your chest,

likely that's low T3 " .) What a relief to get that straightened out. I still

don't breathe wonderfully but I have improved a great deal.

I do feel a lot better than I did. But there are ongoing issues. My HC needs

seem to be changing (why? don't ask me!) so I'm fine-tuning HC dosing, with

Val's help. Progress is sometimes aggravatingly slow, but there IS progress.

My Mom was undiagnosed hypo, to think how much better her life would have been

had she been properly treated...
