Guest guest
Hi Amy, Congratulations on your current pregnancy! I'm sorry to hear of your previous loss. I have a right UU with a solitary right kidney (sometimes women with uterine anomalies also have kidney anomalies so you may want to have your kidneys checked; I've not had any problems as a result of only having one). I don't know that there is a set standard here. I believe it's common for women with a UU, especially for first pregnancies, to see a perinatologist or maternal-fetal specialist. Sometimes they are seen alone and sometimes they are seen in conjunction with a regular OB. For my first, I saw high-risk OBs every two weeks throughout the pregnancy. I did not have a cervical stitch (cerclage). My cervix was untested and my doctors and I felt that with the risks associated with the cerclage it was best to just keep a close eye on my cervix between 16 and 24 weeks, when the risk of incompetent cervix is greatest. As I said before, I was seen every two weeks and alternated between cervical measurements via ultrasound and manual checks. I did not have the FFN test and worked up until I was 32 weeks, when I lost my mucous plug and had some symptoms of preterm labor. 20-28 weeks is certainly a vulnerable time. You may feel more comfortable taking that time off, if you are able to. My pregnancy progressed well and I didn't feel the need...especially since I was being seen so often. I am currently 35w3d pregnant with our second child. This time, we've moved, and I am now being seen at a military hospital and their standards are much different. I think because my first son was born at full-term (38w2d), they are basically considering me normal unless I prove otherwise. I haven't even had any preterm labor with this baby. So, I've been seen on the normal once a month schedule. Good luck! I hope you have a complication-free pregnancy! If so, what have been people's experiences of having it? Do people get regular cervical length measurement? If so how often? How about fibronectin testing? I have been recommended to take 8 weeks off work from 20-28 weeks and be at home, resting as much as possible. This seems like good advice, but is this standard?
