my daughter who is still sick had a cbc today...her wbc were suppressed ....they will do a follow up on monday to rule out anything other than viral...

my questoin is this..i have read that too much cytomel can cause a suppression of wbc..has anyone heard of this...

she is still running a fever but i am not sure if i should lower her T3 meds in the meantime to make sure that is not suppressing her wbc

When I had symptoms from too much T3, I reduced it and the symptoms went away. I

never took a blood test at that time though.

thing is she is not having any symptoms of too much T3...her heart rate is up but she has a fever..when fever down her heart rate is fine...bp normal when fever down and goes up some when fever high but i believe that is normal with a fever...

she has no symptoms of high t3 ...

What did the diff look like? And exactly how low was the WBC?

her wbc were 2.8 (4.8-10.8)

platelets were low too...119 (150-450)

rbc were normal and so were other things like mcv mch etc

on her diff...

gran% 57 (40-78)

band % 10 (0-5 ) high

lymph @ 11 (15-40 ) low

mono% 17 (0-10) high

eos % 0 (0-7)

baso % 0 (0-2)

reactive lymph% 5 (0-5)

absolute numbers

gran# 1.88 (1.92-8.64) low

lymph# 0.45 (0.72-4.32)low

mono# 0.48 (0-1.08)

eos and baso 0

doc hopes that this is reflecting viral infection has her seeing doc on monday...someone mentioned thyroid meds...and i can handle that..but of course as a mom worry about something more serious..her last cbc was 9 months ago and was normal..but that was before starting cytomel...any opinion is welcome!

When we're sick many blood results are different.

Dawn,

Her WBC isn't all that low and her diff has no shift. I'd think she just got exposed to something with starting school. Good she has a follow up on Monday. How are her adrenals? Might think about some extra support with the stress of college. (After she feels better of course!)

Hope she's better soon,

Stacey
