Guest guest
I posted a message previously - I am fairly new to the board. We lost our baby girl in August 05 - I have a UU which the doctors were aware of, however did not offer me any further monitoring and did not seem to know alot about it. At 28 weeks pregnant I went into early labour although the hospital sent me home saying I probably had a urine infection. Within 12 hours I was back at the hospital. We were told that the baby was in a breech presentation - on several occassions. However the doctor that examined me said that I should pursue naturally. I was quite concerned at this, as I understood that a baby in a breech presentation could go into destress. The doctor just continued as he thought best. At the last minute (after telling me to push), he said I needed a c- section. When I awoke our baby daughter was in special care. After 3 hours she passed away. They said she suffered a lack of oxygen in delivery, as her head got stuck. We were told they delivered her whilst i was under GA - she was breeched, therefore delivered her body and her head got stuck. We are now pursuing a clinical negligence case - due to insufficient care and understanding of UU and the risks of preterm labour - no- one offered me any steriod injections or the standard requirements for the risk of pre term delivery. It is very early days, but already the hospital has now written to us saying that although it was mentioned on numerous occassions (in my records) that the baby was breeched, the doctor involved is now saying she was cephalic (head first). We just do not understand what is going on - it just doesn't makes sense! How can a senior consultant internal examine you at nearly fully dilated and diagnose a breeched baby, but after trying to push us for a natural birth and then C-section - AFTER the baby was sent into destress - suddenly say actually the baby was cephalic! Of course we feel he is saying this now our baby has died. Please, please has anyone out there got any experience of how to deal with all this confusion - how do you understand or trust the medical profession?? Sorry to go on - I just need some support.
