Re: Calculating RT3 ~ What's next from here?

I get a ratio of 79, as well. Yes, your blood tests show your RT3 is low, which

is GREAT. BUT - I don't know how long you've been on T-3 only. If it's less

than 12 weeks or so, the blood tests are not that useful, because they can only

show how much RT3 is in the blood, NOT what is still " stuck in the receptors " .

We calculate the ratio because a Free T3 result on it's own could mean a number

of different things; it is FT3 in relation to RT3 that most often provides

usable info on RT3 issues.

A result that DOES mean something on it's own is RT3 - very high or over range

is ALWAYS a problem.

Once past clearance, FT3 is also useful, as most people feel best at the top or

slightly over range.

Where should you go from here - again, I do not know how long you've been on

T3-only. During the first 12 weeks of T3-only, the " do I need an increase? "

guidelines are here:

http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/doineed.htm

More useful info, including post-clearance dosing guidelines, here:

http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/dosing.htm

Other info that would be useful would be an iron panel lab showing % saturation.

We now recommend these in addition to the ferritin in order to get a more

complete picture of iron status. % saturation should be 35-45 for best iron

utilization.

What do they mean on their own?

I started on T3 on February 22, so it has been about 26 weeks. I started slowly

because of the low Ferritin level. I am now at 80mcg/day. My pulse rate had been

around the 60's (used to be 50's) until I started the generic form of Trileptal

a couple of weeks ago, then it went into the 70's. (I have Lyme as well, so it

is hard to know what symptoms are thyroid and which are Lyme.)

For saturation levels on a lab report, am I looking for TIBC and UIBC, or is it

something else? I just had a bunch of lab work done. I don't see either or those

things and am wondering if they are labeled as something else. (Or maybe that

wasn't tested.)

I am still a bit confused about what " clearance " will look like. I have been

tracking temps for about a year. They are starting to be around the 98.6 mark. I

have also been dealing with adrenals, and will be doing another saliva test.

(Other group, I know....)

Thanks for your time!!
