I have my second surgery resecting a SU that was a complete SU. My

first surgery was in '01 and I can't really remember how I felt

afterward. I am having a lap/hyst. Any stories or tips from those

who have been there before. How long was your recovery time?

Hi!

The surgery was fine and my biggest discomfort was the lap. I was sore from the

lap for about 1week, and I took a week off from work. I had no cramping from the

hys and I did have bleeding. My best advice is to wear yoga pants or drawstring

pants - I was sore and could not wear jeans, etc.. for about 2 weeks. Also take

a pillow with you for your surgery, after surgery you can place the pillow over

your stomach for the ride home - it makes things very comfortable - I even used

the pillow for a week when I had to ride in the car.

I hope your resection goes well and that you have a speedy recovery!

Hi -

I also had a lap/hyst in '01 and also had one about 2 weeks ago (I wrote about

how this time around the doctor did a " surprise " resection.) Although, in

general, I have a very low tolerance for pain, I tend to do well with anesthesia

and with these types of procedures (including my C-section 3 years ago -- I

thought it was all a " piece of cake " !!!), so my experience may be really

different from others.

Anyway,my experience from last week - which is much like I remember from my last

lap/hyst w/o the resection: 'Woke up in the surgical center having to pee

desperately. The nurse said it was catheter irritation. After a few more

agonizing mins I insisted she walk me to the bathroom, and I pee'd LOTS. I only

live 1/2 hr away from the surgical center but was in horrific " I have to pee "

pain, again, for the last half of the ride (I would have just pee'd on myself if

we hadn't been in my husband's car; he's very understanding, but...) Anyway,

probably TMI, but I relay all that b/c, for me, THAT was the worst of it.

I actually came home STARVING and ate some cold mashed potatoes, took a Percoset

and watched a DVD until I fell asleep. I'm not one of those people who likes to

" tough it out " without meds, so I continued to take the Percosets regularly over

the next 2 days. I didn't really have pain in my abdomen, it was more like

soreness (like I had done 500 sit-ups out of the blue). I DID, however, have a

lot of abdominal bloating (the gas assumedly), which slowly went away over the

next 3-4 days. (I also had a little bit of gas pain up near my neck.)

Also, I had just minimal bleeding from time I got home. I think that now, 12

days later, it's about over. (That was another minor yuck part - no baths or

swimming pool until bleeding completely stops b/c of risk of infection.) There

was no incision bleeding, although I do remember having some from the lap

incision last time.

I was here at the computer checking e-mail the next AM and doing a thing or two

around the house. But in between I stayed in bed and relaxed, giving my poor

anesthetised/traumatized body a break. You know, we are all so " go, go, go "

these days; it was nice to have a couple of days of doctor-order relaxation. My

advice: Rent a couple of DVDs or grab that book you've wanted to read, take your

pain meds and enjoy just RELAXING for a couple of days.

Oh - I'm also on 2 cycles of Premarin and Provera which my RE says is to allow

the endometrium to build back up before follow-up HSG and ttc again.

Good luck! I hope all goes well for you Friday.
