Guest guest
I have never in my life had a weight problem, even after my kids were born,I was back in my jeans within 2 weeks. Even in 30 some years of being hypothyroid, I've never had a weight issue. However I have gained about 25lbs since being on T3 only.this is a lot for me since I am only 5'1 " This makes no sense to me but I found the info below online yesterday and wonder if it may be my problem. Has anyone else gained more weight while being on T3 only? Chantal What About T2 and T1 – What Do They Do? Both of these hormones are supplied as part of natural thyroid hormone therapy (taken from animal glands), but do not form part of standardised medical treatment, because many doctors feel they play no role in the metabolic processes. Until recently T1 and T2 were thought to play a role only as part of the conversion process, with no actual effect of their own. However, T2 has been found to have a stimulatory effect on the activity of the enzyme that converts T4 to T3; in other words, it helps in the vital conversion process. It is also effective in increasing liver metabolism, and the metabolism of the heart, muscle tissue and " brown fat " (the fat that is burned away, rather than stored in the body). (1) T2 can also help in the breakdown of fat, while not breaking down muscle, which has made this hormone a popular tool for weight loss and body-building, despite a lack of government accreditation. Guest guest
I have not gained weight on T3 only but I do find that article interesting because I do not have any muscle even though I am lifting weights. I am a little concerned and am wondering what Val's take is on this. It would make sense that if our bodies naturally make T1 and T2 we would need them when taking T3. I can see where we would not need T4 because it is just a storage hormone and we do not need to convert when taking T3. I do have concerns about this. My thyroid probably is totally non functional because I have had hashi's for over 20yrs so I know my thyroid is not making it.Venizia From: ladyhawkblue2 <chantalh (AT) cox (DOT) net>Subject: Gaining weight on T3 onlyTo: RT3_T3 (AT) yahoogroups (DOT) comDate: Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 10:18 AM I have never in my life had a weight problem, even after mykids were born,I was back in my jeans within 2 weeks.Even in 30 some years of being hypothyroid, I've never had a weight issue. However I have gained about 25lbs since being on T3 only.this is a lot for me since I am only 5'1"This makes no sense to me but I found the info below online yesterdayand wonder if it may be my problem.Has anyone else gained more weight while being on T3 only?ChantalWhat About T2 and T1 – What Do They Do?Both of these hormones are supplied as part of natural thyroid hormone therapy (taken from animal glands), but do not form part of standardised medical treatment, because many doctors feel they play no role in the metabolic processes.Until recently T1 and T2 were thought to play a role only as part of the conversion process, with no actual effect of their own.
