Guest guest
Hello, My name is Darleen. I am new to this site. I am 30 years old and was told of my problem at age 19 with my first exam. First off, it is disappointing to hear everyone say, I have BU, SU, because i just dont know and no one seems to be able to tell me. I live in the sticks ~ my doctors did not explain, did not know. I had an MRI at age 19 and didnt go back to get ridiculed until I met my husband at age 22. At 22 my doc said, someday I would have surgery to remove my vaginal septum. All I knew at that point was that they were calling this double vagina, double cervix. i thought that was the extent of it and no one could offer an explanation or any help. I got married in 2004 and we definatley want children and i knew i was going to have some sort of surgery to remove my vaginal septum but wasnt sure about much else. I called my OB for yearly and was planning to inquire then about what the next step was. My doctor of 6 years had up and left and never told her patients! SO... here I was afraid of anyone examining me because I had HORRIFIC experiences with doctors/nurse remarks from my first exam and now I have to find a new doctor. I went to another doctor who examined me once & told me, no ~ he would not recommend surgery. ok ~ after 6 years of being told i needed surg, then one guy sees me once and says no surgery i demanded a specialist. I was referred to MFM (maternal fetal medicine) specialist. My first trip there I asked my doctor what the name of this mysterious birth defect is. she instantly says Mullerian Anomalies and hands me a booklet. I felt much relief having a name and being able to do research. I have had MRI's, transvaginal US and regular US. I am scheduled to go back to my doctors 01/13/06. HOpefully they can tell me more about the surgery they propose to determine if i have one uterus split in half or 2 whole different uterus'. This is all new to me and scary. Anyone heard of a surgery where they do a little incision at your belly and look down, if they see " something " they will know it is one uterus split in half and if they see nothing, 2 seperate uterus'? Doc told me if one split in half then right then and there they would remove the septum and reshape. I am also a bigger person and was told to lose weight before i can have surgery. Any insight? Thanks for being here for me to read and relate!

The women here have been absolutely wonderful and will help coach you through this journey. You are not alone. I also had terrible experiences with doctors & have been treated like a freak. I also have an appt. in Jan. to get some answers. I am getting copies of my records and MRI films to take to my new Dr. He is a RE (reproductive endocrinologist)who I found in the files section here. I also made a list of questions to take with me. I recommend that you do the same and insist upon going over the MRI films with your Dr. Learn as much as you can before your appt. There is a lot of confusion about MA's and lots of misdiagnosis. You might need to drive a distance to find the right Dr. but in my opinion, it would be worth it. I have suffered several miscarriages and a recently lost my daughter at 21 wks. That does happen but many women with MAs do have normal births. Hopefully you will be able to get the info. you need to avoid future heartbreak. Best of luck to you. Star
