Hi Amber,

My story: after getting pregnant 4 times naturally and m/c my obg/yn referred

me to a RE. I had a HSG= diagnosed as BU, then had a MRI= diagnosed as partial

septum, then had the lap/hyst surgery to remove a partial septum. At age 32 we

started IVF and before you start a IVF cycle you have to do a " mock Embryo

transfer " which when I had it done still showed something wrong so I had to do

another HSG which showed a partial septum but my RE thought it was enough room

to start IVF which we did and it ended in a BFN (big fat negative) We tried IVF

again and another BFN. Now at 35 and after having the septum removed we are

going to try on our own.

At 32 and getting pregnant on our own 4 times we thought IVF would be a success!

I also have the MTHFR gene (a blood clotting gene) which now we think caused the

m/c's.

Just my opion If your going to do IVF...do it now....I know several people who

have to try IVF several times....I also was a member of the IVF yahoo group

which was very helpful. IVF isn't like what you see on the movies where the

give you drugs and boom you get pregnant with twins or more....

I hope this makes sense...my computer keeps shutting down and I wanted to hurry

up and send this to you!

Best of luck

I am newish to this site and have posted only once. I

have learnt a lot from you all and am grateful to be

able to hear your stories. I am looking for some

advice. My DH and I are trying to decide when to start

a family.

I am 32.5 and DH has just turned 28. He would like to

wait a few years but I am worried about how long it

will take TTC and am worried about the

miscarriage/premature labour risks associated with MUs

and don't want to delay.

This is my story: I was diagnosed with an SU/BU on

ultrasound at 21 years. At 30 years, the diagnoses

changed after a saline unfusion ultrasound (via

catheter through the cervix) revealed an almost

complete septum down the middle but with only one side

of the uterus filling up with saline injected into the

cervix. At 31 years, after a laproscopy/hyst, I was

diagnosed with a BU/UU. The uterus looks normal on the

outside but is split on the inside by a thick wall.

The " good " side is connected to the cervix and the

other side is a rudimentary horn - smaller and

completely sealed off from the cervix. If a pregnancy

were to occur in the rudimentary horn, it would

rupture at 18 weeks. The " good " side is connected to 1

ovary and 1 tube. I have also had a past history of

endometriosis (level 5) and PCOS.

My RE's proposed treatment regime is as follows: IVF

to implant the embryo into the " good side " and avoid a

rupture of the bad side. IVF has also been suggested

because of past history of PCOS and because I am on

the pill with no breaks because of endrometriosis

arising from the rudimentary horn - there is no outlet

at the cervix so it goes back up and out the tube.

When I get pregnant, I have been advised to have a

cervical stitch at 12 weeks, weekly monitoring and to

finish work at 29 weeks because my RE says the median

(not average) term for people with my uterus is 31

weeks!?

Given that I know all of the above, I think my DH and

I should start IVF now. Based on your experiences,

what do you all advise? I would like to pass on some

information to my DH.

Thanks for reading. Hope to hear from as many of you

as possible.

Amber

hi amber

i was misdiagnosed as BU when i was 27 - drs told me it was not big

deal. 11 years, 1 preterm boy (33 weeks), 2 mc, 1 lap/hyst/resection

and 1 chemical pg later my advice to you would be START NOW - DON't

WAIT any longer.

i always thought i had ALL the time in the world for having kids and i

really never was the maternal type anyway (so i thought until i had my

baby) - so i went for the 1st (and only so far) when i was 33. i was

VERY lucky and had a normal pg right up till the day he was born

premature at 33 weeks due to placental abruption (placenta detached

prematurely from the wall of the uterus) most likely due to my big

septum - we were VERY lucky again that he did just fine and turned 4

last 7/7.

i'm sorry i can't help you with IVF cause we haven't gone that route

yet - but, again, i would tell you to start right now. maybe you're

lucky and you can get pg soon - if that doesn't happen i can assure

you you'll regret every month you didn't try -

i was married at 25 and never thought about having kids - i thought i

would have them anytime as easy as my mom had me and my 2 brothers -

after my ordeal with the mc and the septum diagnosis/surgery i find

myself regreting that i waited for so long. i'm 38 now and my clock is

ticking faster than ever ...

nothing can turn back time so i'd just do it NOW.

I just hope you get pg soon and have a wonderful baby in just a few

months :)

best of luck!

Thank you so much. That is very helpful. I am sorry

that you started IVF at 32 and could not get preg.

It's good that your septum is removed now. Hopefully

that will help you at 35 years. I don't know how

strong I would be if I was still trying in a few

years, which could happen I guess. How do you feel

about that?

1) It's interesting that you could not get pregnat on

IVF. I wonder if this was because of the septum? I

also have a septum/wall down the middle of my uterus

that is the wall to a rudimentary horn. I wonder what

the blood supply would be like? Could this effect

embyro transfer? I guess I won't know until I try.

2) I didn't know about the " mock embroy transfer " . I

have heard of people getting pregnant with one try on

IVF - would that be in addition to the " mock

transfer " ?

3) Are there any IVF forums for MAs? Would you

recommend an IVF Forum to me?

Thanks so much.
