Guest guest
hi sheryl if possible i would definitely try to get a 2nd opinion - where do you live? there may be some drs in your area sort of 'recommended' here under either the FILES or DATABASE section - if you ask for recommendations with a post i'm sure you could get some names from other women on the board and in your area - if it happens to be one/more. many women here try to get to a teaching hospital or a big/well known hospital somehow associated with a big university .... i had been dx as BU long ago, had a 33 weeker in 2001 and 2 mc: 6/04 and 1/05 - after a bunch of tests i found out a) i had a clotting issue (homo MTHFR) and i had a SU - i opted for the surgery (lap/hyst in march/05) because after 2 mc i knew i would be scared to death of getting pg with the septum still in place - my septum was NON VASCULAR and FIBROUS so that's what gave the RE/surgeon the reason to resect it - there was no bleeding (from the cutting) during surgery and he stopped when he had resected 85/90% of it just because some 'endometrial debris' started blurring his vision - that's almost exactly what the dr wrote in the op report (i re-read it yesterday). it turned out my septum was occupying 70% of my uterus so i don't know how my son made it in there until 33 weeks - i was scared to death of the surgery too - mainly b/c of the general anesthesia - but i've had 2 surgeries already (in august i had a 'finishing touch' to get rid of the remnants of the septum and some scar tissue) and luckily no bad side effects. 2nd surgery was even easier than the 1st (it was hysteroscopy only with u/s guidance) and i was 100% fine the next day. i don't know if this is helpful - i just hope you can get the accurate dx for your particular case and go from there - we'll be here for you no matter what with the hope of being helpful .... best of luck! gabi
Guest guest
Thanks Gabi. See, this is what bothers me: my septum > was NON VASCULAR and FIBROUS so that's what gave the RE/surgeon the > reason to resect it - My RE is acting like once you've seen one septum, you've seen them all. And I've gathered from reading this board that is not the case. I live in Maine. From what I've gathered, this RE is the one that people all over the state get sent to. She is affiliated with Maine Medical Center, which is the major teaching hospital in Maine. I am probably going to just get the surgery and get it over with. I am just really upset that I am being given the " one size fits all " treatment, you know? It seems like most women on here have received more individualized care.
