Guest guest
Hi - 'Just wanted to weigh-in on your post. I'm a " catlover " too, so your address really caught my attention. (I have 8 ranging in age from 20+ to 3 months, and am currently trying to trap a feral to have her spayed/vax'd. So I guess we're about to have 9. They are all my babies.) Well they are my CAT babies. My human baby is 3 year old Noah - the product of another completely normal, full-term, non-eventful MA pregnancy !!!!!!!!!!! Please don't allow yourself to be devastated by your diagnosis. I've actually been mis-diagnosed 3 times - SU, BU, UD - then finally after my last laparoscopy/hysteroscopy my doctor determined that I was definitely SU, but with 2 cervical openings - an abnormality within an abnormality! Because I was diagnosed SU during my very first gyn exam, and b/c I had a wonderful gyn who catered to college students and was very encouraging, I never experienced your shock and disappointment. I always have felt " interesting " . It's cool to have doctors call other doctors and nurses in to see the anatomy or X-rays or whatever - OK, sometimes they can be rude about it. ( " Please just ASK if I MIND if you invite an entire med school class to 'take a look' while I'm lying there in stirrups!!! " ) Anyway - please don't let this get you down. Think of yourself as unique and know that you will get great attention from gyns/REs b/c you stand out from the crowd. A topical thing: Just yesterday I was with some ladies from my subdivision at a playgroup and we began to discuss the fertility thing (secondary fertility sucks - but mine is due to my age; I have " old eggs " - the REs don't use that term but they imply it strongly!). Anyway, while talking about it with 3 or 4 of my neighbors I mentioned for the first time my MA. One of the women said " Wow, you're the third person from the neighborhood I know of who has one of those. So-n-so on such-and-such street has one of those and she's had three 'whoops' babies back-to-back. And so-no-so #2 on such-and-such has that too, and she has one little boy. " And, think about it , those are just the ones we know about; not to mention all of the others who 1) don't know yet, 2) don't want to talk about it, and 3) will never be diagnosed b/c they won't ever attempt pregnancy. It's kind of amazing when you think about it like that! Hmmm, maybe we're not really THAT unusual/unique after all! As for the kidney thing, I think that can be diagnosed with MRI, although I had (twenty years ago) a procedure called an IVP where they just shoot X-rays of a special dye they've injected. I don't know which is the best/preferred way these days. IVP was a piece of cake. So, I hope you find some encouragement from this and all the other e-mails. And when you go to your appointment, now you'll have some background info which should be helpful. As you've seen, this is a tremendously supportive group. I'll definitely follow your story on the board; feel free to e-mail me if you have any other questions. Susi Metro Atlanta area 43 yo SU (resected 8/05) with 2 cervical openings DS - Noah, 3 yo Dcats - Penny, Snick, Polar, Koala, Maggie, Millie, MiMi and Jack (Thought you'd appreciate that!)
