Guest guest
The usual recommendation is to take the iron and Vitamin C on an empty stomach; I wonder if this could have contributed to your heartburn? I've found I can never take iron + vit c on an empty stomach, I always have to take it with food. Many on this group find they are low in b12 as well as iron. It's worth having checked if you have not done so already. The lab ranges for B12 STINK. Usually they are something like 300-900. That may be NORMAL but it is not HEALTHY. Healthy is top of the range or a little over. I have had very bad b12 problems in the past, I now keep my b12 up taking 1 of these sublingually every day. http://www.wonderlabs.com/itemleft.php?itemnum=9841 L.Lee, another group member, recommended these b12s: this is an active form called Adenylocobalmin http://www.iherb.com/Country-Life-Active-B-12-Dibencozide-3000-mcg-60-Lozenges/1\ \ \ 637?at=0 this is Methylcobalamin form http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methyl-B-12-5000-mcg-60-Lozenges/117?at=0 from her post: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/message/48514 I see you take folate (so do I), L.Lee recently discussed this, as well: Active forms are Folinic Acid & 5-Mthf. please AVOID synthetic inactive Folic acid. Tons of good RT3 info. main page http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ starting and dosing (good info on RT3 decay timeline here. Sorry to say yours may well be slower than some folks, as your T3 raises may need to be slower as you are also raising low iron) http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/dosing.htm Hope this helps. > > > > > >> Brief History: > > >> I have hashi's, s/p RAI 1999. Labs results received on June 25 revealed RT3 ratio of 8 so I discontinued Armor, previously I was on synthroid. Guest guest
I do a sublingual b-12 2500mcg sorry forgot to add that also...my brain no longer functions as well as it use to. My b-12 was checked in june and it was actually high around 1200. I do take the iron with food but i can't recall if i took the vit c with food. thanks for the tip about the folic acid. i've got b complex 100 on order and that has 400mcg folic. i found Nick's website through sttm. A total Godsend. I presented my dr with the info from his site. that's how i came to be on cytomel. the only problem is, if i need to keep increasing the cytomel dose, my dr is not on board with that. she said she is not comfortable going higher that 10mcg per day. so i don't know what i will do about that. I can't tell you guys how thankful i am to have discovered all the info you guys have. I'm 35 years old, i was very athletic, ran marathons, rock climbing, etc. was in perfect shape and to now be bed ridden is horrible, even worse when my endocrinologist said nothing was wrong with me and i just needed an internist to give me anti-depressants. Anyway. Thank you to all. Your advice is very much appreciated. Tonia > > > > > > > >> Brief History: > > > >> I have hashi's, s/p RAI 1999. Untreated for years b/c labs were " normal. Guest guest
Hi Tonia, I can not tell you what to do. I can tell you what I did. My Dr. would not prescribe T3-only at all, and was visibly annoyed that I ordered my own RT3 test. I was desperate to get better and I could not find a doctor to help, so I started treating myself. I order my T3 from outside the U.S., without a a prescription, as do many on this group. I adjust my dosage according to Moderator Nick's website. Anyone who would like a source list to order medications from, just put in a post titled something like " need source list, please " . The source list can NOT be posted on the board (Yahoo rules), only emailed privately. I was on Armour for 3 years and I was feeling sicker and getting weaker and fatter with every month that passed. I did not know where my attempts to self-treat were going to lead, but I DID know I was going to try SOMETHING else. Because the road I was on did not have a good ending. > > > > > > > > > >> Brief History: > > > > >> I have hashi's, s/p RAI 1999. Untreated for years b/c labs were " normal. Your advice is very much appreciated.Tonia > > > > > > > >> Brief History:> > > >> I have hashi's, s/p RAI 1999. Untreated for years b/c labs were "normal." Confirmed adrenal fatgiue, so bad that I became and still am bed ridden since June 2010. Found Dr. that treats adrenal but she admits she has lot to learn and knows little to nothing about RT3 issues. Labs results received on June 25 revealed RT3 ratio of 8 so I discontinued Armor, previously I was on synthroid. Once my temps were stable on HC, I started Cytomel 5mcg for one week, then increased to 10mcg a day per doctor. I've been on Cytomel for a total of 11 days. My ferritin is low 21. I've switched from ferrous sulfate(my ferritin went down on ferrous sulfate) to iron bisglycinate in hopes that will raise levels. I have very low progesterone – actually my levels were at zero. Also have gluten and soy allergy and I'm vegan. My vit d is 41.> > > >> Question:> > > >> I'm confused if I'm doing the right thing overall, but especially in terms of dealing with the RT3. Will the "decaying" begin once I stop T4 or does the adrenals have to be stable prior to the T4 levels deminish? My temps were stable for a few days prior to starting cytomel – within .2 daily. But a week later , they are all over the place. 97.4 -98.3. I just don't know what to do or what to be more concerned with. RT3, adrenals, fluctuating temps or all of the above? I'm just really paranoid I'm doing the wrong thing and I no longer want to be bed ridden nor deal with depression, dry skin, bloating, etc. I know everything takes time, but I so desperately wish to regain some quality of life back soon.> > > >>> > > >> Any help or advice is much appreciated.> > > >> Tonia> > > >> Current meds> > > >> Cytomel 10mcg> > > >> HC 10-10-10-5> > > >> Vit C 1000mg> > > >> Vit D 3,000 IU> > > >> Vit E 400 IU> > > >> Iron 50mg – iron bisglycinate> > > >> Folic Acid 800mg > > > >> Omega 3 1000mg> > > >> Betaine Hydrochloride with pepsin 600mg> > > >> Polyvitamin > > > >> Adapt vitamins> > > >> Magnesium glycinate 800mg> > > >>> > > >> > > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > ------------------------------------> > > >> > > > We are not medical professionals here, just patients sharing our experiences.
