Guest guest
hi tracy welcome i'm gabi, 37, SU - misdiagnosed as BU (bicornuate uterus) for +10 years - i also have a son (he'll be 4 in july) who was born at 33 weeks, breech and by c/s due to placental abruption caused by my SU - i then had 2 m/c (6/04 and 1/05). i had a HSG last february that confirmed i had a septum - the dr then suggested a MRI to look at the outside of my U and see if it was BU or not - i had read a few docs in this website (FILES and/or DATABASE sections) and knew the gold standard for diagnosis was lap/hyst so i asked him to go straight to it - he did and found out i was SU - he resected my U right then and there (3/9/05). as for your questions: >> Is it normal to go from HSG to Lap/Hyst? i don't know if it's 'normal' - i'd say lap/hyst is the one test that will give you an accurate DX so maybe it's better just to go for it instead of wasting your time and money with other tests that are not that conclusive in some cases. >> I'm assuming that the Lap/Hyst will provide a proper diagnosis, and allow the opportunity for any correction (i.e. removal of a rudimentary horn, etc) I'd assume the same the dr who performed my c/s in 2001 and actually SAW my uterus wrote 'BU' in the surgery report - i ended up being SU instead so i think the lap/hyst is the best tool to finally know what you really have i also started with my periods a little late (16) and i always had severe cramps until i got the resection .... as for questions to ask your dr - please take a look at the FILES section - i think there are some FAQ files with those i didn't bleed after the HSG - sorry about that - i don;t know if that's common - did you ask your dr? as for what to expect for the surgery i'll send you what i wrote of my experience - i hope it's helpful. i know it's hard to stay calm when you still don't have a DX and you have extra pressure to have a baby but please don't despair - there are lots of successful stories with all sorts of MAs so hang in there please feel free to email me directly if you have any other questions best of luck! gabi
