Guest guest
Hi Sonya, I had my partial septum removed 9/04 but my dr says I'm still BU...and had two failed IVF cycles....My RE never called to discuss why it didn't work...the nurse says its something they cant explain...sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.....Before my surgery I got pregnant 4 times on my own. go figure. Have you ever been pregnant before? Keep in touch] Sonya Bresciani sonyabresciani@...> wrote: I would also like to know if anyone thinks a septate uterus can cause IVF failure. I have had 5 failed fresh IVF transfers, no reason found, except perhaps my septate/bicournuate uterus, which my RE didn't even bother mentioning to me until after the last negative result and when all other tests were done. I'm scheduled for a resection soon. I would like to hope it will make a difference. Been ttcing for 8 years, I'm now 34. Info on SU Surgery (pg mentioned) I don't post here often, but my situation is quite similar to Jen's. I also had what looked like a BU. For years, I had unexplained spotting and went dr to dr and had several u/s until I met my current OB who did a u/s in his office and recognized the MA. I was scheduled for a lap/hyst not too longer after. Also like Jen, my septum was wide and almost to the cervix. I didn't take any hormones after and follow-up testing shows a uterus that looks very normal. I am now 19 weeks pregnant and after having a very early m/c pre-surgery I definitely don't regret my decision. My only problem with the surgery and this was not directly related the anesthesiologist had a hard time finding a good vein and must have hit a nerve and part of my arm was numb for a few months. A small price to pay for finally progressing this far in a pregnancy. My surgery was actually performed by my OB and not a RE. But my OB had done the surgery many times and after so many bad diagnoses in the past, I felt very comfortable with him. I did meet with an RE later in the TTC journey, after finding out DH had issues that may require IVF. The RE actually did another lap/hyst to seal off a bad tube and check out the cavity again. RE commented that my OB did a great job on the septum and only a very small amount was left. Luckily we got PG on our own just prior to starting our 1st IVF cycle. So I guess my feelings is that benefits outweighed the risks for me. Also I did have a bleeding episode and constant spotting throughout the 1st trimester, but everything has been good so far in the 2nd.
