Guest guest
But I can't eat 3 ounces a meal and certainly not 3 meals of deli meat. I'm not getting anywhere near 60+ grams of protein a day. I'm lucky if I hit 40 and the only time I've hit that is when I drink some protein soup I like from Herbalife. It has 16 grams for 70 calories. I usually don't even eat 2 ounce meals. Maybe one meal a day I do. The other 2 are smaller. Pouch just won't allow it. What's your typical day of food look like? Guest guest
Sorry, I've gotta weigh in here. This is why I decided to do the protein drinks. I do not think it is a good idea to wait months and months until my pouch stretches out (oops, I thought we didn't WANT the pouch to stretch) before getting in enough protein. I know too many people who lost too much of their protein stores, and it is MUCH easier to keep the protein stores up than it is to rebuild them, especially when the malabsorbtion factor is included in the mix. Guest guest
I think part of why I'm tired and don't feel so good sometimes and get nauseous is because I'm just not eating very much. Like I said, I'm lucky if I get in 2 ounces at each meal. I only eat 300 calories a day TOPS (usually less). Today, I had a protein drink that I found at GNC while I was at the mall. It was cold and I could just buy one so I thought I'd try it. It is an Extreme Smoothie. It has 35 grams of protein and 160 calories with 0 fat and 4 grams of sugar. I sure did feel much better after I drank it. I just put in a call to Beth in Richmond and asked her to call me back because I had some questions about protein, etc. We'll see what she has to say. Guest guest
They don't get it. Unfortunately, they have the mind set that protein drinks will make you fat. I don't think they've even really LOOKED at the nutritional stats on high quality protein drinks. Are they thinking of Boost or Slimfast? I gave up! I know what works for me, and for the majority of the successful long-term posties I know. Oh, but according to Richmond, anyone who says something they don't agree with must be lying about what they're really doing. In the meantime, I know a lot of people who are being successful, and lying to Richmond! They're carefully neglecting to mention that they are doing the protein drinks, because they know Richmond doesn't agree with them. Although I certainly understand the sentiment (who needs the grief?), that means that Richmond isn't getting a real picture of how protein drinks CAN help in weight loss, while helping us stay healthy. And isn't that really the main reason most of us had the surgery? Yes, I do like looking better, and I look a LOT better. But that is NOT why I had the surgery. I wanted not only improved health and quality of life NOW, but I also wanted to stave off the health problems that are so prevalent in my family history. Just my two cents, and an explanation of how I reached the decisions I did. After almost two years, I think most of my decisions in this regard were the right ones for me. Doesn't mean I haven't made mistakes, because I have. When I do, I try to learn from them and get back to basics, which includes INCREASING the number of protein drinks. Working so far! I talk to people outside of here and they say if it were not the the drinks they don't know what they would have done. Thanks again. Pam Marsh --- Eleanor Oster wls@...> wrote: > They don't get it. Guest guest
Eleanor, the person who mentioned that the Richmond nutritionist said that we don't get the benefit of the protein shakes might have had something there. I.e. how are we able to get the benefit of the shakes when they are a liquid? Of course I am still taking mine, and will continue to do so just in case, but do you know the answer? Guest guest
Hi Pam. Are you going to the Vacaville support group meeting tomorrow night? You could ask if anyone else there is experiencing the same thing. I take my vitamins with my meals and so far I haven't had any problems. I'm hoping to make it there tomorrow night but I very well may be late. Guest guest
I will be there and will ask the question. I did not have the problem initially either but then I spoke to Dr. Baggs and Dr. Park and they recommended to start taking the carafate before my meals (one hour prior to) and it seemed to be okay but then I noticed that nagging and like I said if I don't take the supplements, it does not feel like that but when I do, I feel it. Nothing unbearable and not pain...just a weird nagging feeling. Hope to see you there. Pam Marsh --- Tina ma2two@...> wrote: > Hi Pam.
