Guest guest
Carol, Why not use a web based mail program. I used google at gmail.comhttp://gmail.com>and everything I store or save is saved online... so my memory is not affected. It give me 2 gigabytes of space to use as I wish. I have a lot of invites, I could e-mail you an invitation. It is completely free. It allows you to archive and assign labels to your messages for easier finding. This way you e-mail yourself the messages from Thunderbird/Eudora you want to save and archive them under google mail without using the memory in your hard drive and can eventually delete these programs from your system. Also... perhaps you should try running a scandisk and disk defragmenter on your system. They are under start, All programs, Accessories, System Tools. Hope this helps! Paola > > I am so stupid. Guest guest
Did you uninstall the programs you don't use, or just delete the shortcut? make sure you delete them by going to " add or remove programs " in your control panel. Also, did you empty your recycle bin? That may be taking up a lot of space. --- Carol Parsons cinders@...> wrote: > I am so stupid. I just want to cry right now. Guest guest
A few reasons that I don't. One is because it is so slow. I use dialup cuz it's all I can afford (And I can't really afford that right now). And the other reason is because I've had this e-mail address for almost 10 years. Everyone knows me here, and all the places I write for and my new publisher and things like that. It would be like changing my phone number. Right now I am using the web to get it from my provider but it's so slow it drives me nuts. Carol > > > > > > Carol, > > Why not use a web based mail program. Guest guest
Carol, Importing your email from Outlook to Eudora and Eudora to Thunderbird created copies. The original mail folders were left on your hard drive. It looks like " Add/Remove Programs " didn't remove the old mail folders, but you can do this manually. If you go to START, select SEARCH and search for " mail " you should be able to find directories for each of the orphan mail folders. (Well, I've never used Eudora, but one can hope.) I currently use Thunderbird on all my machines. But before that I used Outlook Express on my Win98 machine (which I still have). I hand deleted the old copy of my email on Outlook Express after switching to Thunderbird, but I left Outlook on my machine. So, searching my Win98 machine for " mail, " I found: c:\windows\profiles\katman\application data\microsoft\Outlook Express\mail. If I delete the \mail folder, that would delete any old copies of my email and free up the disk space. If the old mail folder is fairly large, you shouldn't need to defrag to see some recovery of disk space. But to defrag in Win98, you'll probably need to boot into Safe Mode. When I didn't boot into Safe Mode, defrag wouldn't complete even after I stopped all other processes. Bob > > I am so stupid. I just want to cry right now. Guest guest
I should have written in Win98 terms for searching for " mail " : START, FIND, FILES OR FOLDERS, and enter " mail " in the edit box. Guest guest
Carol, Glad you got it all sorted out! Unfortunately that's one of the quirks of Microsoft.... things don't delete as they should. Paola
