Guest guest
Use one of my favorite quotes: You will never find the time for anything. If you want time you must make it. - Buxton I visited with my parents last week. My mom is supposed to be on a diet but when I saw her eating a bowl of Cheetos for lunch I had some serious doubts. I ate some things that definitely are not SB compliant but I tried to pick/choose. For example: I ate the chicken/dumplings but passed on the rolls and mashed potatoes. I've been in a funk and stressed out (I'm a teacher and have a heck of a class this year!) This week, I just can't get my butt over to the grocery store and buy decent food. We don't even have milk in the house. I have eaten school lunches this week! They are so " un-SBD " it's not funny. But, I just feel like trying to survive is enough right now. Girl Scout cookies didn't arrive at the best time either! Luckily, my family snatched them up and I threw the rest in the freezer. I haven't exercised hardly at all since school started. So, I've gained a couple pounds and need to make my health more of a priority. I know! Ugh. I just need to do it. ie
Guest guest
I'm listening to an audio tape series called " The Psychology of Achievement " by . It's technically geared toward business achievement, but it can be used toward any goals you may have in your life (being more patient with your kids, keeping your temper in check, losing weight, ascending to a different position in the workplace, becoming a bodybuilder, you name it). I highly, HIGHLY recommend it! If you can't find it, I also recommend " Think and Grow Rich " by Napoleon Hill. Just apply all the principles to weight loss instead of making more money. It's more about attitude than food, I think. A problem with most " diet " plans, they don't address the attitude and mental/emotional stuff, so we need to look elsewhere for it. Guest guest
So Jen, that's very interesting!!!! What principles in those books did you find that you think had direct relevance to weight loss? Don't the authors sort of give you sub-heads, or little titles for the various rules or principles that they are trying to impart? It might be interesting to take some of those principles, and play with them here, on the board. . .. and discuss how they apply to weight loss or diet. Which ones struck home to you? What did they mean to how? How did they help YOU? I don't have the book, and I don't know how many others of us do, and I'm getting on a plane later today, and getting ready for Thanksgiving there cleaning and cooking and decorating and such. And I know there will be temptations there. So any of the motivational hints you might share will be thought provoking and helpful. --Annie D. Guest guest
A big one for me, is " you become what you think about " . If you constantly think about being fat and unhealthy, or messy, or poor, or lazy - that's what you become. Our subconscious minds (if you're a Scientologist, obviously this wouldn't apply to you, since you wouldn't believe in the subconscious) believe what the conscious minds tell them. suggests doing affirmations to your own reflection in the mirror. His example is " I like myself. I like myself. I like myself. " He says the subconscious mind does not absorb the negative as readily (so, an affirmation like " I am not a messy person " would not work - use " I am a clean, organized person " instead), or things in any tense other than present (so, " I will lose 30 pounds " would not work, but " I am losing weight " or " I am a thin, healthy person " or " I eat healthy foods that are good for me " or " I am an active person " ). Another one that really speaks to me is, picturing yourself in your mind with your goal achieved. Not just a mental snapshot of yourself 30 pounds lighter, but picturing yourself behaving the way a slim, healthy person behaves, doing the things that people do at a normal weight (going shopping in a regular-size store, wearing things like low-rise jeans and tank tops or a swimsuit, drinking herbal tea instead of full-fat full-sugar lattes or ice cream, playing basketball with your kids, finally learning to ice skate, sitting in a movie theatre seat without being uncomfortable, going for a long bike ride, I could go on and on and on...). Like - I want to have more patience with my kids and North Dakota drivers (LOL), so I picture myself handling situations with grace and patience. On the way to pick up my kid from school, I often say, " I am a patient, relaxed mother. I am a patient, relaxed mother. " Then when I get there, I don't fret about the fact that he's always the last one out of the classroom with his coat hanging half off. Speaking of whom, I need to go bundle up the younger kids (baby, it's cold outside!) and go pick up my oldest rugrat. Jen in ND anne_wycke horg@...> wrote: So Jen, that's very interesting!!!! Guest guest
Hie thee to the grocery store and stock up on SBD Friendly foods, including packables and snacks!! If your school lunch menu is anything like the one my son brings home, you will gain weight just *looking* at the food!! And while you are at the store, get yourself some bubble bath and indulge at least once a week. It sounds like you really need some time just for you. > This week, I just can't get my butt over to the > grocery store and buy decent food. We don't even have milk in the > house.
