Guest guest
I don't even know why you would need a " nice big salad " with this. Would this not be good on its own as a filling dinner? Thanks,
Guest guest
It all sounds good to me...served with a nice big salad! Layered Crockpot Dinner Does this recipe look SBD friendly to you? I'm new at this it looks ok to me but not really sure. I've worked hard on Phase 1 and don't want screw up Phase 2 when I start next Monday but still have to feed the non-SBDers in the home.... Layered Crockpot Dinner 1 lb lean ground beef 2 tablespoons imitation bacon bits 1 small onion, chopped 15 oz can tomato sauce 1/2 cup water 1/2 teaspoon chili powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 2/3 cup brown rice 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper Crumble ground beef evenly over bottom of a slow cooker. Sprinkle with bacon bits, then onion. In a medium bowl, combine tomato sauce, water, chili powder, salt, and black pepper; pour half over beef and onion layers. Sprinkle rice evenly over top, then top with remaining tomato sauce mixture, then bell pepper. Cover and cook on LOW about 5 hours or until rice is tender. Guest guest
> Layered Crockpot Dinner > > 1 lb lean ground beef > 2 tablespoons imitation bacon bits > 1 small onion, chopped > 15 oz can tomato sauce > 1/2 cup water > 1/2 teaspoon chili powder > 1/4 teaspoon salt > 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper > 2/3 cup brown rice > 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper > The spices are fine but watch your chili powder -- some contain sugar and most have a good amount of salt. Brown rice is ok on P2 as are the meat and faux bacon bits. Onions are ok also. Make sure the tomato sauce you get only has tomatoes in it; in other words, no added sugar. Guest guest
It would be filling...but I would probably eat a salad with it. Load up on those veggies!!! :-) Re: Layered Crockpot Dinner I don't even know why you would need a " nice big salad " with this. Would this not be good on its own as a filling dinner? Guest guest
There is really no vegetable serving in this meal. I would have a side veggie or a salad. Guest guest
, Do you need to add any water to this for the rice? Or is the tomoato sauce enought? Celeste

Celeste, I didn't post this one but I can answer it -- nope. The fluids in the crock pot will soften the rice. Now, if this is NOT the original form of the recipe (i.e., if the original called for white rice and not brown rice) then you may need to add more fluids. Since brown rice typically requires a 2:1 water:rice ratio, so 2/3 cup rice would need about 1 1/3-1 1/2 fluid. I notice that this recipe has 1/2 cup of water and a 15oz can of tomato sauce, plus there will be some fluid contributed by the other non-dry ingredients as well. I'd give this a try as written and if the rice is too firm/dry, I'd add another half cup of water.
