Guest guest
Careful -- careful. You may be on the fringes of heresy here and the SBD police might be along to arrest you guys for not being " committed " enough to the plan. ;-) Looks like you three (Chuck, Chuck's wife, and ), are four, five, and 11 years younger than I am, respectively, and MY big sin, here, over the past several weeks, was being worried that in SIMPLY eating as per P1, without ALSO doing some portion control, or points control, or --something-- that I MIGHT -- might --gain. So this iS validating coming from both of you, because it indicates that INDEED, if you have already been losing, and go from a succesful loss (albeit over a long period of time, in my case) to an " eat-as-much-as-you-want-but-just-follow-the-rules " arrangement, then you can, in fact, GAIN. AHA! DAWNING REALIZATION MOMENT! T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Which is why I might have seemed to some of you to be so obsessed over " counting " things, and amounts. I think it IS a lot harder when you're older and when you're close to goal. So 's and Chuck's post validate that concern, exactly, I think, and substantiates the reason for all the recent fear that I had expressed on this board, and my insecurity during P1 about whether I might actually gain, instead of lose, here, if I didn't ALSO look at 'points' or 'calories' or something. Because -- In the end -- IF INTAKE CALORIES EXCEED OUTTAKE CALORIES, YOU GAIN. Very simple! So, possibly there should be some modifications for those whose metabolisms have started to slow a bit. . . . and who are close to goal. See -- in my previou efforts, based on information available online, I already had come up with my BMI (basal metabolic rate) and determined how many calories I was burning, based on my heart monitor's readings, the exercises I'd been doing (or not doing) and myh calculations of how many calories, or points, I should (or shouldn't) eat. And THAT is what had helped me LOSE what I lost before coming here. But it still hadn't gotten me to goal. And I had decided that this new eating style MIGHT just shake up my system enough to help me lose the last 10 pounds that seemed SO impossible to shake off. But was afraid to stop counting (points or calories) and measuring. And that's where I got into trouble here . . . me and my big, fat, mouth -- letting it all hang out every which way. And I guess that was offensive. However, now that I'm seeing a picture that looks truer to my own eyes, I think there's less of a need to be so " allover-the-place-detailed " about recording every nuance and happening. Looks like you guys served up the answer I was seeking! Anyway . . . Much appreciated, folks. . . and, I think I stand vindicated to some degree . . .. . Just scoping things out to get at what works for my unique system... and I, pretty much, had had it down to a science but wanted to give the end, here, a kickstart. I think it MUST be different when you're this age. And ALSO when you're fairly close to goal. I am thinking, and believing, and hoping, that when I renew my efforts, all the info from Fitday, from WW, and now, with these new morsels of information -- especially from here -- added to what I learn, should all come together, to help get me to goal and keep me there.
